Final Countdown

We officially closed to the public on Saturday, but we still have some cleaning up to do. Our landlord is coming in on Wednesday to take a look at the store with our DSM. If he is pleased, we will officially be relieved of our duties. If, however, he is not pleased, we would have until Saturday night to finish cleaning up the building. This is how it looks so far as of Friday:

I will miss working at the store. It was only four miles from my house, and I’ve enjoyed working with most of my co-workers. With that said, I can’t stand how corporate has handled our store closing. Our TSM is never around, and our DSM loves to bark orders but fails to help. Javon, my manager and myself have had to do the majority of the back-breaking work over the past few weeks. When our TSM is able to stay with us long enough, he works as hard as anyone could possibly work. He’s never afraid to get dirty, and that’s why I love working for him.

In other news, I was able to get my tire fixed free of charge. I couldn’t go to the tire place until Wednesday. I put in a full can of fix-a-flat and said a prayer all the way there. They took care of the tire, and I was free to go.

Unfortunately, my washer decided it wanted to act up too. The washer will go through the wash cycle just fine, but it won’t advance to rinse. Fortunately, I just need to order a new lid switch assembly, and I’ll be good to go. In the meantime, I’ve had to take my clothes over to my aunt’s house and use her washer. I’m hoping to have our washer fixed by the end of the week.

The big news is, I had a job interview today with the Sears at Stonecrest Mall. My interview was scheduled for 1 p.m., and I met with the operations manager. We talked for about 30 minutes. He was impressed with the work I’ve done at the Covington Sears, so he gave me a brief tour of the warehouse and had me speak with the receiving lead, Sedrick. Both guys loved me and couldn’t wait for me to start working for them. I also told them about Javon and handed them his resume. Since our store is owned by Sears, we can easily transfer to any other Sears or K-Marts in the nation. HR is working on my transfer, and I should be in the system by this Sunday. If all goes well, I’ll start working there next week.

I’ve already told them about my trip to Chicago in May, and I was going to take a couple of days off after this week just to relax. They’re on a bi-weekly pay schedule, and my position could be full-time or part-time. Stonecrest is only 16 miles from my house, so I can easily make it there in less than 30 minutes. I’m scheduled to work tomorrow at Covington, but the rest of the week is unknown.

Well, time to end this entry and head on to bed 🙂
