Dress up

We had our 10-year high school reunion a couple of weeks ago. I almost didn’t want to go at first. Luckily, one of my classmates said they wouldn’t be able to come. Their ticket was given to anyone who wanted to go but couldn’t.

There were approximately 30 people who showed up. The reunion was held at a country club with a cash bar, free food and drinks, and a dance floor. We were required to wear cocktail, so I actually dressed up for the evening heh. Most of the people who came were on my facebook already, but it was still good to see everyone. There were only a handful I hadn’t seen since we graduated back in ’01. I spent most of the evening chatting, but the food was delicious!

I had a great time throughout the evening. Music was played, but hardly anyone dared to dance lol. Prizes were handed out towards the end of the night, and we all took a group picture to close out the evening. I’m on the lower right part of the picture:

We’ve had an ownership change at Sears.

It all came to a head around the 17th. Our landlord was threatening to evict us if rent wasn’t paid by the 17th. Our District Sales Manager was able to keep us in the building for another day, but we were told that our landlord would be accompanied by the sheriff. We would only be evicted if everything inside the building was placed in the parking lot. The inventory belongs to Sears, so there was no way they would allow any item to be thrown on the sidewalk; they ended up sending a transitional manager.

He came just before the landlord and sheriff arrived. The TSM was able to change the store from our former owner to Sears itself. Turns out, our landlord was responsible for 6 months worth of rent. Sears officially took over the following day. Once Sears took over, we had to re-apply for our positions. We each had to take a drug test and undergo background checks.

The good news is, I had a wage increase from $7.25 to $8. We also receive actual benefits like direct deposit! Our previous owner never offered direct deposit, so our checks would arrive after 2. That way, when we deposited our checks in the bank, they wouldn’t hit his account until Monday.

Also, just this week, the longest-tenured associate quit abruptly. He had been with the company for 3 years, but he claims that he wouldn’t be able to work things out with upper management. I ended up working overtime this week, but it was worth it.

We also got our truck fixed finally. I still would have preferred to have the HHR, but I’m just glad we have a working vehicle now.

Funny tidbit.

Our warehouse guy used to see himself as a player and wouldn’t mind having sex with random women. After being around me a few months, he’s found a girl he’s heavily in love with and does not see himself being with anyone else. He also said he wouldn’t have sex with her until New Years Eve. He said I’ve turned him into a gentleman now lol.

Yay for a raise! The reunion looks like a fun time. Heh~ I still don’t consider that to be a definition of a gentleman. But I guess it’s a step up from where he used to be.
