Thinking

Recently, I’ve begun to explore my options as far as my education goes. Right now, my major is in the communications field: broadcasting/journalism. I’ve thought about something else I think I could be good at.

A counselor.

I’m really good with giving out advice. I’m good with words and I know what to say. I love listening to problems. I’m also open-minded and willing to listen to both sides instead of being biased. I don’t know. It’s just something I’ve thought about recently so I guess I’ll talk to my advisor about this career.

Oh and btw, Seth and Liz are back together.

Don’t look at being a counselor too lightly Joe, it can be one of the most stressful and depressing jobs there is. In fact, in the UK, it was found that the most stressful and demanding job was a counselor/social worker. My friend is a Christian counselor, she had to deal with a girl who was in to Satan and kept screaming at her, saying that the devil had power over everyone. Very creepy!

What about career counseling? Seems like you’d be good at that, and it might be less personal/stressful than personal counseling. It’s something I’ve always thought about, and it sounds like you might be good at it.

Hmmmm, not a bad idea to pursue… Just remember that it IS a demanding job and that not everyone will be able to be helped by you… that’s the main reason I didn’t go into the field… cause I can’t deal with NOT being able to help someone… I take it very personally when I can’t. But if it’s something your really into, then I say go for it! Take care…

counsellor.. that’s my current career choice. but, the odds of burning out are extraordinarily high. all the qualities you listed are important.. but can you separate yourself from work, or school, or a conflict that someone else has? if you can’t, counselling will burn you out extra fast. one of my friends burned out.. wasn’t pretty. not trying to scare ya or anything lol hugs,

Hmm, after reading the above notes, I am leaning toward teh positives. When I was a psych major I loved my counseling classes, While there are negative points (burn out, seperation of sessions/and the rest of your life), there are many good points to it also, Give it serious consideration. If there is anything I can tell you about, I will be gald to. Good luck with your decision no matter what.

RYN: thanks so much for the positive words back at my diary. Your right in that we all need to lean on other people sometimes. I just have to learn to do that every once in awhile. Take care….
