First Job Interview?

Before I start, I wanted to say that OD was being a pain the last few hours *pouts*.

Thanks to everyone who read that last entry. I didn’t have time to say anything back because she quickly logged off. Get this, she’s only 13. Ah the irony.

Anyway, I went through and deleted old e-mails from Beth that was left in my Hotmail inbox. I had totally forgotten about those. Now, I have no leftover memory from Beth (except some notes and that IM we had).

I really dislike match making services that require you to be a paid member so you can contact other members. Doesn’t that suck? What’s the point of having a profile if you can’t contact anyone?

I haven’t studied much at all even though I have three finals. Why?

1)Lost my key somewhere

2)One of the books I need to study from is at my dorm room

3)The notebook for my Human Communication class is gone, and I have that final tomorrow.

However, I’m not too worried because two of my finals are on Thursday and the HC final is multiple choice. I’ll just scrounge the text or something.

I’m also supposed to meet Melerin from OD tomorrow, but I haven’t talked to her since Sunday.

I have excellent news to report: I have a job! This is the first job I’ve applied for and my first interview! I’m working for Vector Marketing Corporation who is a member of the ALCAS (their factory is in Sarah’s territory: Olean, NY!). Anyway, my appointment was for 2:30 yesterday. My mom, Amber and I went to Stockbridge and we went to find the building. There is no way you can identify the building (it’s in one of those strip mall places) because there is no sign or anything. I told my mom to turn here and we found the building.

When I got there, the receptionist Melissa handed me an another application. The lobby filled up real quickly and around 2:30, there were already about 12 people there! It took a while, but I was finally called into this guy’s office. He asked me brief questions and aksed if I could return in about 10 minutes for a longer interview with other people. My mom said that would be fine so I was allowed to stay.

The group interview was very cool. He demonstrated some of the products we will be selling and he did a great job in presenting himself. The company is a very successful business and is featured in four textbooks.

BTW, the building doesn’t look like much on the outside.

The product, Cutco, is the #1 ranked product in the world of its kind. Also, some universities require their students to work for Vector because of the high level of training provided by Vector. I’d say that is awesome.

The base pay will be $12.50 and that is set in stone. However, you can increase your pay based on how much you bring into the company. For example, if your total amount of sales goes over $1,000, you’ll get a 10% increase. However, there is no competition or anything of that nature. It is completely up to us whether or not we want to pursue the incentive for our pay check. Incentives are also paid every week; the base pay is paid every 2 weeks. There are people making over $10,000/yr. If I get around 35 appointments in, I will make over $430. Not bad for my first job.

When Mr. Barnes, the guy who was interviewing us, asked me into his office, he gave me some more questions and I answered them to the best of my ability. He was so impressed, he gave me the job right on the spot. In fact, he said that he was impressed with how I presented myself with my attire, my classroom participation, and how I presented myself with how I answered questions.

This is what I will be doing. I will meet with customers one-on-one in their homes. After I am finished with the 45 minute presentation, I will ask for referrals and I will go from there. So basically, my customers will branch out considerably. The company is not into telemarketing, door-to-door sales, or over the phone sales.

That’s a wrap up of the past few days. Hope all you college students are kicking butt on finals! Wish me luck.

congrats on the job!

I read your diary sometimes and you seem like a really cool guy. Thats why i wanted to tell you that cutco is really not a good place to work. My roomate worked there this past summer. You really don’t make as much as they say you do. They screw you over. I know you may choose not to listen to me cause you don’t know me. But it would be worth it to find people who have worked for them in the past.

hey congrats on the job! that’s awesome! 🙂 especially given that it was your first interview and everything! I hope you enjoy it! Thanks for your note, and lol I’ve done that survey at least twice before too.. hugs,

best of luck!! sounds like a really good job… and i remember when i was excited to get paid 6.50 an hour at petsmart! lol… now that seems like small potatoes. dating services that require payments do suck…. but my mom said lavalife.com is pretty good and they don’t require any pay! check it out if you’d like. peace!

hahha u are working for vector/cutco.. that is funny. And yes they are here in Olean, NY.. my my its a small world after all. Our bank use to do Vectors deposits, but they didn’t like when we went to the new system so they took their business elsewhere. Which is fine by me because they use to screw up their damn deposits all the time. They were a pain in our ass!! lol

…although i do have to say that i agree with happyhazen’s note. my friend quit the job after 2 months. when she quit, they tried to screw her out of her paycheck and told her that SHE owed THEM money. just be careful, is all.
