Theme of the Week

Do you think that people are inherently good or evil, or do you think they are made that way by other influences?

I don’t think anyone is born pure evil, but they are born good. I believe that outside, and inside, influence can affect a youngster to be good or evil. Some influences could be: a mental disorder, a divorce, abuse, and drugs. Perhaps if you consider segregation as another factor or the feeling to be superior (kinda like the KKK). Also, consider the role of religion in the mix. (Like the Al Quada who used Islam to justify their actions).

I remember watching “Citizen Kane” and Charles Foster Kane became a force in the newspaper industry. He gathered up his second wife and built a palace. Even with all that wealth, he desired one thing: his childhood. That’s another factor to consider. Perhaps a child would rather trading success for old times. Like in R. Kelly’s “I Wish” “…Ever Since This Money Come Been Nothing But Stress/Sometimes I Wish I Could Trade in My Success”.

The above could tie in a situation where a child had to go through a painful divorce. Instead of living with his mom, he’s forced to live with his dad. His dad probably pushed him too hard and the child couldn’t have any fun. Thus, he’s robbed of a fun childhood.

These are just a few things to consider when you wonder if someone is purely good or evil.

Interesting point of view there Joe. I’d have to say that I need to think about this theme a little myself…

Excellent point of view, I totally agree.
