Changes

I love OD. There are soo many options to choose from when you’re selecting your background. I found the body background on the fourth page. This started when I modified the links to the diaries on the little box thingie. I got tired of the old set up and I changed the body background, menu font, and menu background. I kept the white font and orange title font. What do you guys think? Also, what could I put in the second box between my favorite diaries and sites?

You know what’s interesting. Females in movies today, are kicking guys’ asses and not the other way around. I was watching “The Net” today and the thought occured to me. I remember some of the other movies that featured female heroines: “Tomb Raider”, “Double Jeopardy”, the new movie “Enough”, just to name a few. I think it’s facsinating to see females stand victorious at the end of a movie and not a mere sidekick or whatever.

What do you guys think of the lack of U.S. enthusiasm towards the World Cup Soccer? The following is from a sportswriter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Mark Bradley. The article is entitled, “We’re missing the point”. I’m going to give excerpts from this article.

“The U.S. team has done suprisingly well in the World Cup, comprehensively beating the group favorite, then fending off the host nation for an as-good-as-a-win draw. The United States is poised to advance to Round 2, and as the rarity–a card-carryig American who likes soccer–this should fill me with pride. Instead it leaves me uneasy. It makes me wonder if we Americans deserve a really good soccer team.”

“…This is about the mass American non-audience that takes considerable pride in hating soccer. An essay in Time concludes thusly: “Look, we’ll watch the World Cup when we win the thing and not a second before.”

Later on, Mark writes, “We Americans tend to look onthe passon for soccer as a sign or something lacking in a country’s culte: Is that all those people can fin to get excted about?

Time magazine: “Last week we pulled off a huge victory against Portugal. It didn’t make us feel that great because there’s no much Portugal is better at than us, other than making sweet wine and salted cod.” This is too often the American Way–making light of what we don’t understand, using our superpower status as a shield.”

Do you guys agree with Mark and Time? Or do you beg to differ?

I agree with the article. The US always likes to set itself apart, even when it should be more involved in what goes on in the world. I´ve been in Spain for the past 8 and a half months and I´ve learned things about the world, and about the US, that I wouldn´t have otherwise. The US media blocks us from seeing a lot, and even when it doesn´t, nobody cares.

i agree….. but don’t get me started on Americans and their ignorance… I’m not a big fan of us…

I’m kinda addicted to changing my look!

I’ve always hated football (or soccer, as you American’s call it), so I naturally hate the world cup. Football causes so many problems over here, with football violence between rival fans. It’s really pathetic to see 45-year-old men go about causing trouble after a match, they break into cars, set off fireworks in the street and then beat up rival fans. It’s just sad. I like you new layout 🙂
