News – Vids From the Inside

Middle East

A vid from inside of Gaza. Interesting to note how they say Hamas has moved away from terror as of late, whilst others have filled the space left. I still think Hamas can be aided in moving from violence to politics fully, but it seems no one wants to give them a real chance. They’d rather make the people of Gaza suffer without showing sign that they have a real plan to end this situation.

Another video that makes note of militants using Google Earth to target Israel for rocket attacks. It also makes note of the near stop of militant activities on the part of Hamas. However Fatah’s militant wing is still active.

The PKK remains defiant in the face of condemnation from both sides. It might feel good to resist, but I don’t think this is in their best long term interests.

Just to add to the mystery, Syria removes a building from the site that was bombed not too long ago by Israel.

Israel approves various sanctions against Gaza, including cutting power, in a bid to stop rocket attacks. I call upon my vast powers of precognition to state that this won’t work.

The PLO seeks legal action to stop a light rail from being constructed through Jerusalem which will provide service to contested Israeli settlements.

And to cap it all off, Lebaneses AA guns target Israeli planes. As always, far too much going on in this part of the world.

Africa

Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi gets an agreement between 4 Chadian rebel groups and the government on a peace deal. I remain pleasantly surprised by Gaddafi’s change.

Sudanese rebels attack an oilfield and take a Canadian and an Iraqi oil worker hostage. They want China to withdraw support from Sudan’s government. Getting the rebel groups to agree with the government and thus make a workable peace agreement is a hard nut to crack.

Burmese soldiers are back on the streets in Rangoon, seen as a preemptive measure.

Richard Griffin, who is in charge of security for US diplomats(In other words, dealing with the likes of Blackwater), resigns. A few guesses on to why.

The wildfires in California are fought back and some evacuees return home. Sadly for those who have to see their belongings in ruins.

Nintendo reaps big profits from making something new. Something they tend to more than other game companies that just move along the same old lines of pushing the graphics barrier. They should fixate more on using the console hardware to add more gameplay options, much as the Wii has done, as well as the DS.
