Iraq

The search for WMD has officially shifted from finding them to finding Saddam’s intent to create them.

At least three(some say four) unknown foreigners are ambushed and killed in Falluja in an ambush, their bodies savaged by a gathered crowd(Don’t click if you’re easily grossed out by text description). In separate incident, five US solders are killed by a roadside bomb.

A marine captain is declared responsible for the worst incident of friendly fire in the Iraq war. He called in an air strike to a suspected Iraqi position, unaware that dozens of marines were fighting over there. Ten were believed killed in that incident. He may face disciplinary action.

Israel/Palestine

Israeli settlers struggle with the IDF, trying to stop their dismantling of Hazon David, an uninhabited outpost. Palestinians dismiss the destruction as mere PR. The settlers are quite incensed at it.

Anti-Semitism in France? Seems so, as many Jews seem to find the prospect of uncertain Israel a better choice. France seems to be generally trying to push religion in the closet, though. With their general ban on wearing religious paraphernalia in schools.

Uzbekistan

Thirty people have been detailed on terror charges in the wake of the last three days of violence.

Pakistan

Authorities put the torch to more than three tons of heroin and hashish, promising to keep up the fight against the flow of drugs from Afghanistan.

UK

Britain will join many EU members in giving legal recognition to gay relationships.

US

The Statue of Liberty is set to reopen this summer, having been closed since 9/11. It has a new bevy of security improvements, which we can hope will keep it from being exploited as the juicy target that it is.

A bomb threat brought about extensive searches of trains and planes, but not explosives found.

Bush and Kerry continue to rumble over gas prices. Bush looks to regain the ‘compassionate’ image. The elder Bush lays out an emotional defense of his kid.

As many predicted, the White House as relented to letting Condi testify publicly. As well, Bush and Dick will meet with the full commission in private, rather than just the chairman and vice chairman.

Daschle says he’ll keep blocking bush nominees if Bush won’t stop seating federal judges while the chamber is on vacation. A spokeswoman replied later that Bush won’t give up this constitutionally mandated power, especially with regard to “unprecedented Democratic obstructionism.”

There was just an explosion in Uzbekistan now. Seeing how awful their government is, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s an Islamic revolution there sometime soon.
