Lord of the Rings sweeps every Oscar category it was nominated for. Eleven awards, tying with Ben Hurr and Titanic for sheer number, first to ever sweep every category it was nominated for. Well done. Especially for a fantasy movie to take such high accolades. But of course, this wasn’t your normal fantasy movie.

Mel’s movie is making him big bucks at the very least. Due in no small part to the fervor of the converted. This weekend, when I went over to the movies, I noted a few interesting things. Such as all of the showings of that movie being sold out up to 6 PM and a few past that time. As well, I noted a priest(by his distinctive collar) was in the lobby talking to some people. Which is unusual. I’m sure priests do go to see movies, but I doubt they do so collared.

Many churches are buying out entire shows at movie theaters. Hence the sell outs. Got to give it to Mel. He’s gotten millions in advertising by just making it newsworthy.

RYN I think I agree with you and posted that view point as a contrast. I will see it for the historical point of view, as I’m very interested in a movie that purports to be historically accurate down to the language spoken. I’m not particularly religious but do enjoy a good movie.
