News – Bush Administration taints science?

US

A collection of sixty scientists, including twenty Nobel laureates say that the Bush administration distorts and suppresses scientific fact that is at odds with their policies. President Bush’s science adviser, John Marburger, says the report is biased and he is dissapointed aht some prominent names are on the written statement. Personally, I’m more apt to believe sixty scientists rather than Bush’s singular advisor. But yuou can check the info yourself, this article has a handful of links.

Bush is concerned about San Fran giving out gay marriage licenses. “even though the law states otherwise”. Personally, I don’t care what he thinks. Though I do think that this rush could be harmful to those in favor of it. The rush and the illegality are not positive spins on the issue. Move too fast and people will get spooked.

In the wake of a bioterror attack, the US postal service could speed medicines to residential homes swiftly. I thinkt he officials might have it right, the postal service delivers a hell of a lot of mail every day. They have a pretty massive network going and that should be used to its fullest.

The White House has stepped back from its own 2.6 million estimate for new jobs in the US. Criticism was swift to come. Not surprising considering the adamant position that this administration takes on everything. Too often they present their projections as gospel, so it is expected there will be jeers when they renege on their own data.

A Washington state National Guardsman is charged with funneling secrets to alQueda. The information appeared to contain vulnerabilities of US army gear, to aid in killing Americans. Personally, I’m interested to hear why he did this. Finding out the reasoning behind his actions(besides that he was a converted Muslim which, while interesting, isn’t necessarily the fullness of his reasoning) would be beneficial.

Is the Bush administration under funding armored HumVees and armor kits for armoring up lighter HumVees? Considering the budge tricks they’re playing, to keep from freaking people out about how much the Iraq war will require, its hard to tell. But the speed at which the two items are being distributed is less than appeasing.

Musing Dean’s mistakes in his campaign. Perhaps we didn’t know enough about him?

Iraq

The Iraqi women aren’t cooperating. At least, a lot of them aren’t, it seems. Find out why here. I think one of the most annoying things about this is the diversity of stories. For once I’d just like to be given the straight dope on what is good and what is bad without the freaking spin. Its at the point that I just don’t trust anyone anymore. Everyone gets salted.

Two US soldiers and one unnamed Iraqi killed in a roadside blast west of Baghdad.

The UN is going to side with the US and say no elections before June 30th.

Israel/Palestine

Despite his unilateral plan, Sharon says he hasn’t given up on the US roadmap. Considering his poor track record for doing as he’s promised, I feel enough justification to doubt his word.

The International Committee of the Red Cross condemns Israel’s wall. The Israeli government denounces the ICRC’s protest as political because it comes days before a legal challenge against the wall by the ICC.

The situation for poor Israeli’s is growing worse. Why is Binyamin Netanyahu cutting welfare while lowering the tax on luxuries? It seems the only place that the poor can find solace now is amongst other citizens who sympathize for them. When people come into a supermarket to eat food off the shelves and aren’t stopped, it shows that there is a serious problem and people know it.

Iran

The discovery of undeclared components compatible with advanced uranium centrifuge designs by the IAEA has some wondering if Iran has been entirely up front.

The mess from the massive train explosion is being sifted through now, with the death toll standing around 320. 460 injured with most of the dead in poor condition to be identified.

General

New studies show that violent games are bad for kids in extreme doses. Duh. Parents who let their kids play too many ultra violent games are just as hazardous to their kids health. It’s about time parents start taking some responsibility for this crap. I’m tired of my type of games being argued against because parents let their impressionable young experience the sort of stuff that’s made for adults.

Today’s Papers has India and Pakistan agreeing to peace negotiations, France and Germany wanting to have a security council vote on whatever plan emerges for Iraqi sovereignty and Kerry and illegal contributions among other daily tidbits.

I think the tainting of science issue is a serious one, and I wish more people cared about it. This isn’t really a new accusation, but it comes from some eminent scientists AND from a former Republican EPA chief, and these charges have to be taken seriously.

I sure hope people finally start suing the crap out of the RIAA. I don’t normally like frivolous lawsuits, but i’ll make an exception there.

Yeah but all them damn scientists are liberal up the peehole. *snicker*
