After a poor showing in the Iowa caucus, Richard Gephardt is dropping out of the democratic race. In the winner’s circle was Kerry, Edwards in a close second and Dean, in a mildly surprising upset, trailing in third.

The US is falling behind in the broadband race. Other nations are getting it faster and cheaper than us, leaving the world’s richest country a meager 11th in worldwide broadband use. That’s sad.

What does it all mean? Not much, really. The real election is still some time away and the field of competitors was lacking some serious competitors, such as Clark. But it is a feather in the cap for #1 and #2.

Bush plans to up domestic security spending on the 2005 budget. After all, he has to play his cards in the spots where he gets the strongest regard for his reelection.

A thirty minute drive this weekend has taken the Mars rover ten feet to a rock that will be studied for part of the next week. Such is the boring life of a rover on a distant planet. 😉

The Wired News Vaporware Awards are in. Unsurprisingly, 3D Realms is high on the list with its still absent Duke Nukem Forever. We’ve been lingering six years for the next installment of this franchise, starring the wisecracking, womnazing, alien wasting Duke Nukem. Personally, I’ll keep waiting and hoping that development on it dosen’t stop officially. Also present are Doom 3 along with a long list of those that seem ever lingering on the fringe between life and death.

A new performance enhancing steroid has been discovered that isn’t caught by current tests to weed out dopers. This leads one to wonder how many have slipped through with this undetectable little gem and how long it’s been out and available.

International Papers looks at reaction to Bush’s Mars plan. Opinions range from dismissive to downright hostile. Many voices in the world are skeptical of the practical realities as well as the ideology behind the move.

Today’s Papers has gloomy outlooks on Iraq, the 9/11 commission being denied more time, 10% more in Medicare payments and more.
