Dst – Chronicles of Malignant Mercies Pt 12 (8/8)

Dark HalloweenEnd Game

Thomas’ blood ran cold at the familiar voice. Soft folds of a black cloak lay lightly against his shoulders as his assailant moved closer, the keen edge of the scalpel guiding him to lift his chin, looking upward into cold, brown eyes set into pale features. “Miss me?” Words languidly formed by moist, red lips.

“Not possible..” Thomas croaked this, his eyes wide, features taking on a pale shade of their own. “How did you get in here?”

“She’s a talented woman.” Michael Briggs moved around to Thomas’ right side from behind. He paused and faced the other man, arms lightly crossed over his chest. “But don’t strain yourself trying to understand, it’s a headache, let me tell you.”

“Don’t look at him, look at me!” The Pale Woman’s soft hiss as her scalpel guided Thomas to return his attention upward. “I’ve been searching for you for a long time.. too long, but the leash upon me is broken and I am here for you.” Something almost tender in her voice at the last, though warm thoughts Thomas might have held were banished by the chill blade at his throat, the keen edge traced deftly along tender skin.

“Are you sure you want to do this?”

She frowned faintly as she lifted a cold glare toward Michael. “I thought you understood why this must be.”

Michael frowned, nodding his head slightly. “I do. And if you want to do it, I won’t stop you.. and I’ll hold up my end. No one will know. But I wonder if you’re truly sure you want it to be this way.” He met her cold eyes without challenge and silence reigned, save for the gasping breaths Thomas emitted.

“Yes!” She hissed this as her arm flicked out toward the side, laying the blade full across Thomas’ throat. The razor thin cut welled immediately with a gush of blood, Thomas choking wetly as his hands flew up in a futile effort to staunch the flow. She grabbed his hair, forcefully pulling his head back to look up toward her ghostly visage. “I want him to die for me as I died for him. Slow.. painful.. Do you feel helpless baby? Hoping for something to save you, yet knowing that nothing will? Because if you do, then you’ll know how you made me feel.” Her lips curled into a sneer as she shoved him forward.

Thomas gasped and breathed wetly as he clutched at his throat again, trying to rise, yet unable to get his legs to work properly. The wet flood of his life soaked his suit coat and shirt, his hands red, forearms spattered. Feeling himself fading, the stricken man slowly sagged forward upon his desk. Thomas breathed his last breaths with blood flicking his lips and a rough death rattle fading within his throat.

“Then it is done?” Michael moved his averted gaze toward the Pale Woman, pointedly avoiding the drained corpse. “But what will you do now that this is done?”

She frowned, annoyed that her moment was interrupted by annoyingly accurate reality. “I don’t know. But for now we should be away. Come.” She extended her clean hand toward Michael, which he approached to take lightly. Together both walked back into the shadows of the dark office and were gone.

The camera pulls back from that office, out of its window and pans over the glittering cityscape that bustles around the tall office building. Pulled around we see a dark silhouette standing upon the roof of a shorter building nearby. Closing in upon this silhouette, its red glowing eyes become clear, narrowed as they stare directly at the window of Thomas’ office.

It spoke then, hushed voice laced with venom. “You failed to bring Black Death upon the world, pale one, but I will succeed where you failed. And when I do, I will personally present your betraying carcass to the Dark Lord himself. Mark these words.”
