News – Rummy is News

Considering the rumors that the shuffling of Iraq related duties has put Condi as #1 on the issue. Perhaps Rumsfeld’s leaked memo was intentional by him? He is getting more attention now.

US

Rummy keeps on talking. Now he’s heralding a shift to a war of ideas when it comes to terrorism. Would have been nice if that approach was taken from the start, but.. In other musings, do you think that Rummy’s memo is one of the most stunning papers to come out of the way as of yet? I’m not sure yet, but it is very telling in my opinion.

Over 200 workers at dozens of Wal-mart stores have been arrested on immigration charges. I wouldn’t put it past Wal-Mart to illegally hire packs of illegal immigrants.

The Senate gets a pay raise. Now they make $158,000. You know, it might just be me but I can’t respect these people asking for even more pay when the nation needs what little it has to keep getting by without digging deeper and deeper debts.

A dozen states are filing suit against the federal government to force them to regulate greenhouse gasses. No EPA spokesman was available for response.

A Buffalo, New York charter school is using RFID tags to track student attendence. There are plans to expand the technoology into many differn areas of keeping track of school business. The student tracking is done by all students having an ID badge that has their picturem, name, grade number and the tag in the badge. Some aspects of this seem great, but still.. there is a certain uneasiness about student tracking.

American’s Anti-Bully method. Flawed? Probably, because it seems to be baed on dubious data at best when the motivations for school bullying are likely too varied for just one answer to the problem.

Need a new reason to generallt dispize Bush? How about his stand on stem cell research?

Iraq

Some money is starting to flow for Iraq. Japan is being generous, while Saudi Arabia is only offering a loan. And not a very beefy one at that. The EU as a whole is giving over 800 million.

Another US soldier killed.

On Iraqi was killed, two injured in a mortar attack. By the look it might have been an attempt on a power station. Not very well aimed if it was.

Wolfowitz is talking speedy transition now. Honest desire, smokescreen rhetoric or a burning desire to get out of the fire? You deiced.

A tip off from locals helped stop a bomb attempt before it could be enacted. A Syrian is believed to be among the three taken into custody as a result. If that’s true, I’m sure the Bush administration will wet itself thinking it has a solid link that Syria’s doing bad things in Iraq. Never mind that a Syrian could be there without government sanction.

Israel/Palestine

A joint attack between Hamas and Islamic Jihad has killed three Israeli soldiers. One of the attackers was killed, the other escaped.

Afghanistan

The drive to disarm the various factions in Afghanistan has been formally started. Just one thousand disarmed so far, but questions remaining on whether the countries warlords will play ball.

Iran

The US is largely alone in its hard-line stance toward Iran and its nuclear program. They’d rather engage with Iranian leadership than simply punish them.

General

A texas company has created an ‘Orgasmatron’ for women. The device dosen’t give orgasms, but applying it 10-20 minutes before sex puts the woman into a state of readiness for an orgasm. Critics are skeptical, but satisfied customers swear by it.

Spammers are turning their attention to blogs. Comment sections spammed horribly. Nothing is sacred.

Day to Day: Explainer details what a “Persistent Vegetative State” is and Dear Prudence.

Today’s Papers covers the big Wal-Mart round up. Or ‘operation rollback’ as it is so ironicly named. There is also the Ann Coulier doll, congressional republicans getting tired of Rummy mouthing off and more.

Amusements

Question for the readers. What do we like best from the amusements I’ve posted? Pics, jokes or flash animations? Or is it all good? Let me know, I’d like to deliver some solid laughs to follow the generally dismal state of news these days. 😉

The UP reported the donations as sizable, generous, etc. But most countries sound anything but enthusiastic about supporting our imperial ambitions (and why would they?) Peace amigo,

I hope the war of ideas is cheaper than the current war.

It’s as if the Senate said, “Everybody deserves a raise. Including us!”

Comment on the above posting — Actually it’s as if they said, “Everyone deserves a raise, especially us” My contempt for all things Bush increases steadily even as I think it’s not possible to increase. It scares me that so many cannot see through them. I watched a voter discussion on C Span last night and it was appalling that most said Bush was moral and trustworthy. Even the ones against him.

RE: Bush. He’s still OK in my book, though I am hardly a fan of any politician. RE: Bullying and school violence. A reporter for Newsweek who detailed all the US schoolboy shootings found one invariable. Every shooter had at one time or another been on drugs for school problems. Perhaps these drugs are keeping some from working through their lack of control developmental stages.

Set into the context Rumsfeld gave for his remarks in his response press conference, the memo is really boringly, nothing. Set into the context of Daschle’s and Slates political agenda, their response to it was really boringly nothing, mere political mountain out of molehill production. My fav news item of the day is economic growth of 7% predicted by years end, currently 3%.
