Muse – F*cking USA?

I recently saw a topic with a link to this little bit of anti-US propaganda coming out of North Korea. Thought it would be a good idea to pop it here for the general musing pleasure of my readers.

Fucking USA.

Firstly, respect to Rob Pongi for getting it on his site and translating it.

After viewing it, I was amused by it. One thing you’ve gotta admit is it does have a catchy beat. It’s still rolling around in my head, which attests to that.

Now, I’m sure many Americans would take one viewing of this, then start to get all hot under the collar. Ready to rant and rave and post a massive diatribe about how much North Korea sucks, etc..

But why?

Honestly, as of late the US has lost the ability to laugh at itself and to take in stride poorly made propaganda. Things like this don’t deserve that sort of attention merely because the only ones it was made to convince are the sheltered people of North Korea and no US blog rant will reach them in rebuttal.

Not only that, but music was made to sell ideas. It mixes them with catchy, memorable verse and music that is meant to stick in the mind. And we in the US have our own lyrical propaganda. It relates to all manner of domestic and international issues. The only difference is we Americans are usually more subtle in how we go about it.

But you have to give a sort of backhanded respect to so up front a piece such as this.

Which doesn’t mean you have to like it. I don’t. But I’m not getting my tail in a kink over it.
