Pol – Political Stooges and Charlatans

I find myself annoyed that, as it becomes clear that Washington is unlikely to find any of those sweet, juicy WMD littered about Iraq(though there is always an outside chance of something), that they’re spinning it as of WMD weren’t all that big. What with Ari on stage emphasizing that even a little tiny bit could mean lots of death. Smacks of preparing for the discovery of enough bio/chem to fill a coffee can.

And we have Wolfowitz saying there were other reasons for that war we just ended.

Damn, really?

Apparently. You know, Saddam was such a bad guy. Way eviler than anyone else. That’s apparently one of the ‘other’ reasons. Mind you, the stupidity of that reason is that there are likely tyrants way more evil than Saddam.

So Saddam and his psycho progeny killed people? We’ve got worse killing going on in Africa for one instance. What makes African social issues way more dastardly than Saddam and his little desert kingdom?

The simple fact is that the reasons we went to Iraq are pointless as they could be applied to dozens of other countries, many of which would be much easier to deal with and, I’m sure, some of which are worse havens for scum and villainy than Iraq. Places where death, rape, torture and starvation run rampant and chaos reigns in contrast to the relative order that Iraq once was.

That’s just one example. There are worse places we could have brought democracy to, as inspectors kept Iraq busy with the alleged BioChem shuffle, more or less neutralizing them as a threat.

But we went to Iraq, We rushed to Iraq. Because of the WMD. Which aren’t there.

And because we rushed, we had no plan for what comes after. Well, ok, the vaguest outline of a plan. One that was based on hope and a prayer. One that is, at this moment, largely failing by the look of things.

Now Iraq is, arguably, in worse condition than it was when Saddam was in charge.

And the killing continues across the world.

So if it wasn’t about the WMD, we just wasted money and caused more death for nothing, as nothing has changed for the better and there is no indication that they will.

Are you sure it wasn’t really the WMD?

Better hope they find more than clean trucks that maybe, could have been used for WMD, but show no indication of it.

I tend to be rather conservative when it comes to politics, but I must say that the current Republican administration has f*cked things up. Apparently our new foreign policy is, “We have the biggest d*ck on the planet, so we rule. We don’t don’t know how to rule, but what does that matter?”

Excellent entry. Thanks.

Of course, there was a specific purpose for this. Probably the same reason for the invasion of Grenada and Panama. You get a virtual cookie if you can guess what I think it is.

As one of those who supported the war, I can tell you that the failure to find the WMD will make me a lot harder to convince the next time. The good part of this is that if there are 50 million like me, it may make it harder for Bush to go to war next time. The bad part is what if we need to go to war against N Korea and Bush can’t because I and other former supporters….

…and other former supporters (especially Blair, congress) can’t be so convinced?
