Log – Through Darkness to Illumination (4/6)
After a few minutes of skulking around outside the schoolhouse, Contrary will enter the building carefully. She keeps her mask on, for what worth it is, If anyone is around, she avoids them, exploring slowly. Looking down hallways. Looking in windows, though she avoids opening too many doors. When she reaches the stairs, she pauses. Lingering at the top of them, she stares down the stairs. Thoughts flowing, until she wavers slightly, feeling a strange ache rise in her head. She leans against the wall a moment, looking toward the ground until she recovers from the dizzy spell. After the moments pass, she backs up, turning as she reaches the first stop up, carefully making her way upward. She passes up the second floor, walking further up, her next pause on the third floor. She reaches out for the handle of the third floor door, but doesn’t make it. Her hand pausing. She stands there for nearly half a minute before she steps back from the door, shaking her head slightly. The next moment she turns and races up the lat flight of stairs, pushing her way through the roof access door noisily, not looking side to side as she staggers a few steps away, pausing at the middle of the roof in a slightly hunched posture, breath too heavy for the short run up the last stairs.
Now while sounds such as these are common in a school house, at such an early hour they are not. Haplo calls out from under the tarp, not looking, “Hello? Is everything all right out there?” His voice is monotone and flat, a common thing for the past year or so.
Contrary starts at the sound of a voice, twisting about and stepping back. She’s in obvious view, though(depending on the roofs lighting), could very well be partially shadowed. Her instincts crash headlong into a wall immediately after as she freezes. The reasons why is unknown, but the net is the lack of any response.. no sounds of movement after the first slight scramble of her turn. Her breath comes under control then, thus the most you get in response is an equally out of place silence.
The sound of a tool being dropped into a tool belt can be heard, then slowly the overalls of a worker comes out from under the tarp. Thus presents Haplo, he is rubbing his hands with a small red rag to remove the grease, as any mechanic would do. He looks to the distrubance to see what is the matter, and again he repeats, “Hello? Is everything all right?” This time directed at the figure whom apparently caused the slight disturbance.
** Start Haplo description **
Haplo Gegs is a very tall human looking person. He stands about 8 1/2 ft tall, and has a light build. His long gray hair is stuffed under a cap, and he is wearing white overalls, with thick work boots on his feet.
He has a large work belt filled with tools, and assorted devices. On his head is a Multi-Optics band, slide up so as to be off his eyes right now.
His face and hands have a few smudge marks of grease, some saw dust is on his pants, all in all he looks like he has been working fairly hard.
** Start Haplo description **
Contrary takes a few steps back as it sounds like the person is coming out. Animate, she looks to the side then the other, before shooting a look back toward the tarp covered object. When Haplo comes into view, she stops again. Suddenly so and stares. She’s a curious looking person, what with the face mask. Is she a hoodlum? Robber? She doesn’t look armed or armored. Nor is there much indication of what she intends to do after she freezes. If you could get a good look at her eyes, the overall feel from her would be close to a form of astonishment.
Haplo Gegs finishes cleaning off his large black hands, then shoves the rag into the back pocket of the overalls. He tilts his head slightly and says softly in his monotone voice, “May I help you?”
Contrary wavers faintly as you speak, her astonished stare weakening. She glances down a moment. Her head then lifts, in the midst of a slight, clearing shake. Which doesn’t seem to work as her stance wavers again and she drops to one knee. Below her mask, her jaw clenches slightly as she tries to concentrate. A hand lifted as her head starts to ache, her disorientation obvious. No response, save for slight grunt, which doesn’t seem focused toward you or anything else in particular.
Haplo Gegs lifts a brow as he now is a little concerned. He takes a few steps forward and says softly, “Are you ok miss?” Haplo’s voice still monotone but with some genuine concern in it.
Contrary jerks faintly, her body tensing sharply a moment after you address her. A low growl, mixed with a pained groan as her other hand lifts, both clutching at her head as if to hold it in. She curls inward upon herself, still on one knee, it debatable if she notices your approach. Several distinct spasms will cause her muscles to twitch hard, only her wide stance keeping her from falling over, no noticeable response emerging save for soft, pained noises.
Haplo Gegs takes yet another step closer towards you, but isn’t sure what to do. He stands there and waits calmly. Hoping his inaction does not cause more harm than good. He says nothing further for the moment watching looking for an indication as to what he might do to help.
The strange spell seems to pass gradually over a few minutes. Several shudders pass through her during that period, each a little less violent than the last, her noises softer. Less intense. Her breath, elevated amid the strange episode, calming to a soft pant when she finally relaxes. One hand dipping to keep her from tipping forward at the sudden relaxation. She seems dazed, slowly gathering control of herself, her breathing as moments pass.
Haplo Gegs stays quiet, as it seems this episode is passing. He just waits, wondering who this individual is and what conditions ills her.
Contrary shakes her head slightly, though the act draws a slight wince from her and a renewed rubbing of her fingers against her temple. The daze lifts some, though she seems confused as she looks up, finally. Seeing you standing there, staring at her, she’s prompted to rise. The sudden action gains her another flicker of disorientation, but she keeps her stance despite that. She seems uncertain as she looks at you, taking a slight step back. “I.. I’m sorry..”, she says, finally. Her voice communicating uncertainty despite it’s naturally firm tone.
Haplo Gegs shakes his head only slightly, “Why do you apologize? I was concerned my presense may have caused your discomfort. Perhaps it is I that should aplogize, yes?” Haplo says softly. Then after a moment, “Are you ok now?”
Contrary appears uncertain how to respond, until you ask of her condition. “Yeah.. yeah, I’m fine now.” Though she’s still lightly rubbing her temple, the motion pausing after she speaks. She lets her arm drop to her side. She’s looking at you strangely now, her posture reticent.
Haplo Gegs nods slowly, “If you are sure miss.” Haplo says softly, “Is there something I can do for you? The school does not normally have guests arrive at such an early hour. Perhaps you are in need of some aid?”
