News – Memorial Day Violence (2/2)
News continued. Some mroe heavy type topics, then the lighter ones. Well, lighter in a sense. π Read on. π
Today’s Papers kicks off with an interesting and peaceniky comment by Sharon. Though I don’t hold out hope that he’s gone sane all of a sudden. The EPA’s messed up water pollution tracking system, Iraq attacks and Iran angst also make the news, along with other topics.
The senate passed the Charity Aid, Recovery and Empowerment (CARE) Act of 2003, a cut down version of Bush’s ‘faith based’ initiatives. It’s been two years in the crafting, caught amid legislative gridlock during that time.
Bush officials are also blocking more inquiries into 9/11. What are they hiding.
Lawlessness and tradition are shrouding Iraqi women in fear. With the unsafe nature of the streets, attack of young women being possible and probable, daughters are being carefully guarded from being assailed.
Here’s a report I hope is wrong. Tentative indication that the US might be planning to add a death row and execution chamber to the base at Guantanimo Bay. You know, the one where ‘detainees’ have been held for over 18 months with no charges and no access to legal counsel. Where they could be tried, convicted and executed in juryless trials with no right to appeal. Please tell me this is false.
A study of teens and children has linked youthful hostility to adult heart disease through various secondary factors that can spawn of anger, hostility and cynicism, leading to degraded cardiovascular health. If your kids are angry at things and more cynical than they should be, you should try to find out why and ease that state.
ABC’s Extreme Makeover. The most violent show on TV? After reading this adroit summary of the show, I don’t have any desire to watch it. Personally, I don’t think matters of plastic surgery need to be yet another public spectacle. Yet another place for TV execs to squander their cash on higher ratings, feeding into the social perception of so called ‘diseased flesh’ and the compulsion of some women(and men) to cut into it as a means of attaining the ‘pretty’ status. The fact that a little adjustment to someone’s face can suddenly cheer them up and reinvent their life is a sad thing. These people, who are already good looking overall, crying over small imperfections, eccentricities of the body which are what give us our character. Never mind one of the ones in the article has a combat form that many women would die for. That’s not enough. So she cries and goes on about it when ABC decides to foot the bill for her to become another artificial beauty.
Good show, lady.
This is an interesting little examination of fiscal inequality vs. fiscal equality in terms of which really fosters greater growth in an economy over time. Half in relation to another Bush appointee who’s initial look into the topic suggest inequality is best(as Bush’s tax approach shows, obviously), though she herself is still not done with examining the issue.
An amusing look at commercials that make fun of old people. What do you think about it?
Sorry, no pics today. I’ve spent way too much time on today’s entry and have to get some work done before I get in trouble. π But donΒt worry, there will be some fun entries today, even if I have to do them at home. π
Without knowing what they looked like before, it’s hard to make a true judgment on the makeover show. But if it’s anything like the rest of the ‘reality’ shows, it’s probably unnecessary in the extreme. Only taking those with minor defects, instead of helping those who might have serious issues.
Warning Comment
I don’t understand this trend in television to make us watch people do stuff in their lives. Thanks all the same, I’ve got my own to get going on; and plastic surgery as some sort of vicarious thrill really makes me nauseous; thanks for the warning!

What’s more horrifying to me than execution chambers at Guantanamo Bay is that there’ve been 25 suicide attempts. If we can’t put a stop to the torture, maybe death will be a blessing! What the fvck is happening to our country….

“What the fvck is happening to our country?” Bush is happening… and the American public is buying
