News – Dark World, Light Humor (2/2)

Let’s continue, shall we. Funny pics at the bottom.

The chief executives of General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and the Chrysler arm of DaimlerChrysler AG support Bush’s tax cut. Does that sway you? Nicholas Gregory Mankiw is being nominated to replace Glenn Hubbard who resigned as chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers. Interesting note about Nick. He’s ridiculed tax plans like Bush has in the past. If Bush has him ‘under control’, this is a big stop in projecting a sense of confidence. If Nick retains his own free will, this is a blunder of moronic proportions. What do you think?

Chatterbox muses the evidence that suggests Fred Fielding was the mysterious Deep Throat, who was the source on Watergate. Personally, I don’t know too much about it, but I do know some are interested. Someone I read a short while ago wrote about it.. I forget who.

Experts(and I as well), think people are overreacting to SARS. People I the US especially can more or less relax. We’re good for the most part. Really, China is the only place that’s not in control, but they’re working hard to regain it. So relax people. The pros are on the job.

A study on mice hints that skipping the occasional meal might help one avoid diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease. Note: The study is not conclusive, so don’t start starving yourselves. But on the overall, occasionally forgoing a meal shouldn’t be too bad. Especially for some rotund Americans. 😉

Oh all the.. Cadbury’s has started up a new promotion. Buy lots of chocolate bars and get the tokens from them to get sports equipment. Predictably, health organizations are furious at this. Personally, I find it silly, considering it takes 5,440 bars to get a volleyball net and posts. No ball. This is aimed at getting equipment for schools, perhaps, but either way by the time they get too much, the kids will be too fat to play.

On to better advertising. A drug company made an interesting little commercial for their arthritis medication starring Frankenstein’s monster. Makes you grin. Well, made me grin. 😉 There’s a link to a QuickTime version of it on the article.
