Paleo…first week impressions

Hey Lovelies!

Well, I made it through my first week of Paleo without hurting anyone. I am amazed at how things have changed in just 7 short days. The morning joint stiffness has almost disappeared completely and I have much less "snack, crackle pop" when walking through the office. My energy level is great and my meals satisfy me longer. The added protein/fat that this way of eating brings is working well for Buddha Belly. My carbs are reduced (umm..eliminating grains and sugar will do that lol), but I definitely don’t feel "low carbish". I get plenty of carbs from fruit and sweet potatoes. I am going to wait until my Whole30 type experiment is over before I make a final call, but I can tell you right now I am pretty much convinced this should be a way of life for me moving forward.

My Virgo is loving experimenting with different things in the kitchen and just changing the way I viewed food in general. I will tell you, though…the first Paleo plate I made had an empty spot where my starch used to be. I didn’t have any sweet potatoes on hand that night, so I doubled my quantity of vegetables. I plan to buy organic meat whenever possible. It’s expensive, but it tastes so much better…and since gluten is obviously an issue for me, grass fed isn’t a bad thing. During mid-week, I woke up and wanted something different for breakfast. I ended up making my own "cereal"…it was actually really good. I used almonds, walnuts and unsweetened raisins…with a little bit of almond milk. Success!

Oh and since I know you’re only reading to see what the scale did, I dropped 12 lbs this week! Holy Moly! The WW receptionist was screaming like she won the lotto. I know this loss isn’t going to be a regular thing…and I don’t care that it was a mix of water weight, inflammed Coco body recovering and a little fat loss…I will take it all…just get it off of me! LOL

Well, I have a playdate with the Wonder Twins, so I need to get going. I’ll be posting more Paleo stuff in the next few days. Read if you’re interested, skip if you’re not.

Until next time,
C

yep, paleo/primal is the way to go….I noticed a HUGE difference in the way my joints felt (especially my hips) within the first week too. Let me know if you’re looking for a good recipe or something, I’ve tried all sorts. 😀

Holy crap! That’s awesome! I am going to plan a more paleo-centric shopping list for next week! And you have plenty of energy for your workouts? So awesome.

I’m very interested in anything you have to say about Paleo. I have the book but need lots more ideas.

I’m gonna look into this diet, I have a lot of knee stiffness and think it might help. I’m glad you are having such great results, and 12lbs? That is INSANE! 🙂 But awesome of course!

Wow! Awesome news. I know that must feel good. First and foremost your body feeling better, but 12 pounds has to feel darn good too. Are you able to do the same types of workouts that you used to as well? Will continue to keep you in my prayers. I am going to tell my mom about this diet…maybe it will help her too.

Hey Courtney! I have been following you for YEARS! Just wanted to say WOW great job. Glad to know this seems to be working for you and that you actually feel better is great! Continued success my friend.

12 lbs! That’s freakin’ awesome. I know that must please you 🙂 Keep at it — I love where your head is. I’m beyond my lowest weight ever… so close to being under 200! D

That’s great, so glad this is working for you.

this is AWESOME news!!!

OMGosh! You’re ROCKIN’ it! I’m late to the party; had no idea. Wow! I’m impressed. I’ve been having really bad hip/lower back muscular/skeletal pain for 3 wks; finally broke down and took some ibuprofen today. I feel much better, but I really hate pain meds. I’m going to look into this way of eating to see if I can incorporate it into my pescetarian lifestyle. Lynne http://balance.urbanmasala.net
