Hot Chocolate Race

Hey Lovelies!

A friend and I braved the cold this morning for the Hot Chocolate Race at Fair Park. First, let me tell you…Dallas has had an unusually warm winter so far. We’ve had weeks in the 60s and 70s…and it’s been FABULOUS. So why did Old Man Winter decide to move in last night? Because he apparently hates me! Seriously…the wind chill in Dallas as 14 degrees. NOT AMUSED.

I have been fighting a bitch of a head cold the last few days, but decided to keep my race commitment because I didn’t have a fever. I got up at 5:00am and got dressed in layers (Umm…definitely a big girl "no no" LOL). My friend Roxie put it all in perspective, though. "Wear cute panties in case they have to be cut off later due to hypothermia!" WTF?!?

Speaking of hypothermia, one of the RAM Racing doctors sent an email at midnight advising that anyone that registered for the 15K event (*raises hand*) that runs a 12 minute mile or slower (*raises hand*) was being asked to drop down to the 5K event to prevent hypothermia. Damn..there’s that scary word again. Roxie and I decided to take the advice of the expert and not torture ourselves with the 9 miles. I was grateful for the decision once the wind picked up and my snot started freezing to my face. Nice. We proceeded to do a slow, tolerable 5K. I was satisfied just making it through the elements and not choking on my own phlegm. Seriously, Coco? Just GROSS

All in all, it was a fun event. The volunteers were great…nice police presence at the intersection (including a Black cop that looked at me like "Don’t you know Black folks don’t DO cold weather?!? LOL) and "the sweetest post race party in America".

Roxie and I freezing our asses off before the event start

My goal is to not look like this chump in 2013!

Umm…you know we had to take a cheesy pic by the ginormous hot chocolate!

Second fitness event of the year is done! Next up: The Color Run on 2/19. I have my white t-shirt ready to be made into art! Hope you’re having a great weekend!

My mind is boggled. Hypothermia!? I had to use a temperature converter, and 14 is about -10…which really doesn’t seem that cold to this Canadian 🙂 Good job on the race 🙂 For cold weather, I have a fleecy triangle that I wear like a cowboy bandana. It helps with the snot issue.
