Houston, we have a problem…

Chesty and I arrived in Houston late Saturday afternoon. Baby Mama graciously agreed to drive us to the packet pick-up site, so we met at her house. She always takes care of us…so I know the new kiddie is going to have it made. 🙂

I had a free night certificate for The Magnolia, so we took advantage and rubbed elbows with uppity folks. My job allows me to stay at upscale properties for free (or heavily discounted), so I’m usually not impressed by most hotels. However…I have to give kudos to The Magnolia! The decor was perfect. It had a nice mix of Texas flare and contemporary design (However, I must admit that it was the milk and cookie night reception that won me over LOL). A lot of hotels seem to spend a large chunk of money on the lobby design and neglect the rooms. We stayed at the Waldorf Astoria during our NYC trip in 2001. I was blown away by the lobby…only to be disappointed by the room itself. Travel agents are always making mental notes…tsk tsk.

Later that night, Chesty and I had dinner with my friend S. It was so good to see her. I have 3 friends that moved to Houston in the last 2 years…what is the deal? The traffic sucks royally, it rains all the time, and the people can’t drive. It’s basically Dallas on steroids.  *pout* They all moved for love or money…the roots of all evil. :p I guess I shouldn’t complain. I get to see all of them 3-4 times per year…and that’s better than nothing, right?

Race Day…the rain came early. The Tri-Divas decided to do the 10 mile ride instead of the 25. The heavens opened again almost immediately after we crossed the finish line. I was so glad we let common sense win over ego boost. Riding in traffic freaks me out. LAF conditions were terrible, but at least we were riding in rural areas of Austin. The Space Race was a different story. The threat of having a car skid in the rain or slipping off the bike was enough to make us take the smart route. So…the Tri-Divas returned safely from battle. 🙂

Until next time…

Glad you chose the safe route.

I felt the same about the Waldorf when I stayed there on a work trip a few years ago. The room was really nothing special at all.

I had a friend move to Houston at the beginning of this year….She said the traffic still terrifies her, but it’s getting better. 🙂
