Doorbells, Food and Weight

So, pretty uneventful weekend. Hubby and I had some errands to run on Saturday. One of which included purchasing a doorbell. I hate doorbells because of my sensitivity to noise, they startle me. However, we’ve missed so many people because of not having a doorbell. You absolutely cannot hear people knocking unless they knock really hard. They have to literally almost beat the door down to be heard if we’re not right in the kitchen. I missed a delivery recently and as I drove myself to the post office to pick up the missed package (our post office NEVER re-delivers anything, they suck) I decided it was time to buy a doorbell. Anyway, the doorbell isle at Lowe’s is almost overwhelming. They have everything from big fancy wooden doorbells to tiny little plastic things that plug into a wall outlet. As we stood there staring at the overwhelming number of choices, not really liking many of the options in our price range we spotted it, over in the corner, a small brass Victorian Style Mechanical Doorbell. That was it, we got it, hubby installed it and it’s surprisingly loud. Now hopefully we will never again miss a delivery.

Last night I made Eggplant Parmesan. I’d never tried Eggplant before. I uh, discovered I don’t like it much. The recipe however, is a keeper. Despite my dislike of Eggplant the recipe itself is actually really good. I’ll make it for guests that like eggplant. And I’ll probably make it for hubby once in awhile as something he can take for lunch during the week.

I’m turning into a pretty decent cook. When we first got married I knew very little about cooking. I didn’t have anyone to teach me as no one in my family really cooks. We ate out a lot when I was a kid and my mom would cook one of her 3 recipes on Sunday or my step-dad would grill. I, on the other hand, LOVE cooking and do a lot of it. We usually only eat out twice a week. Pizza every Friday night and one dinner out on the weekend.

I haven’t mentioned weight loss in awhile. I’ve lost 10 pounds in the past few months! It’s not much really but it’s something. It’s a step in the right direction. I’ve been continually putting on weight since I was about 17. I stopped gaining about 2 years ago and have stayed at the same weight. I’ve been trying to lose weight for over a year now. Trying to figure out a formula for calorie intake and exercise that will work for me. I seem to have hit the nail on the head finally. It’s been hard to find something I can stick to as I love junk food and I hate working out. 🙂 Hopefully in another couple of months or so I’ll be able to report that I’ve taken off another 10 pounds or so.

Anyway, I guess that’s all for now.

I can’t stand the sound of doorbells, either, especially because the hounds go ballistic, and I REALLY hate the sound of my phone ringing. It seems to be 300 decibels louder than it really is.
