Okay, I’m a bit worried this morning.

Mine and hubby’s direct deposits from work haven’t gone through, this means we haven’t been paid. We have less than $20.00 left right now which would be why I’m worried. I’m giving the bank until 10am and then they’re getting a call.

I’m a little pissed this morning too. Our company now has this policy of closing an hour early on the day before a holiday. Since Labor Day is a Monday it’s closing at 3pm tomorrow. The problem with this is, yes the written hours are 8am to 4pm BUT they give the employee’s a little leeway. We have three choices 7am-3pm, 8am-4pm, or 9am-5pm. What this means for the 7am-3pm crowd is that we don’t get to leave an hour early like the 8am-4pm people. And the 9am-5pm people get to leave 2 hours early!! How unfair is that? When the 7am-3pm people said something to a higher power within the company about this what did we get told? We got told that coming in at 7am and leaving at 3pm is a priveledge. If it’s such a priveledge then why is it considered one of three sets of standard hours for employee’s to choose from? There should be some kind of warning when you sit in orientation and write down the hours you want that you should pick the 9am to 5pm because you’ll get more time off than anyone else. Don’t pick 7am-3pm because you’ll get reamed up the ass. I really hate this company sometimes. If I wasn’t underpaid and screwed up the ass constantly I might feel a little better about my job.

It would also help if I had something to do. Hehe, this is why I originally started my OD. Because I hardly have enough to do to keep me busy and I thought it would keep me occupied. I seriously keep waiting to be let go because I’m not needed or some shit. Luckily though, I don’t think my co-worker could handle all the shit I do. He’s feeling pressure from having one big responsibility handed completely over to him, I have 3 big one’s and a lot of piddly stuff.

My biggest thing is the telephone directories for us and the little company that split off from us. I make the changes to that, package it up into a little executible program using Wise Installer and send it out to the field.

Once every 3 months I have to send the directories out to one of our member companies on diskette as well.

My second biggest thing is the Insurance Forms database. I scan hardcopy forms into Adobe Acrobat and place them into the database for customers.

My third biggest thing is maintaining the companies electronic manuals. Both me and my co-worker make changes to manuals using RoboHelp. We kind of have certain manuals he does and certain one’s I do. It’s not a written rule but people tend to go to who they’ve worked with in the past. Anyway, I have to make sure everything that’s updated is put on the server and functional and all that.

I also do support for electronic manuals, telephone directory and forms database. Although I am trying to get people used to calling the help-desk before calling me on everything but the forms database, my old boss was bad about having people call him, which does nothing but add more stress to our department. He had a “thing” against IS though.

The last thing I’m responsible for is shipping out a software program (basically another manual) we have to customers. And I have to make sure the Site License and Confidentiality agreements are signed and returned for those.

So that is what I do every day. 🙂 I’m not really that disposable. Most people that would already know how to do this stuff would want more money than the company is willing to pay. It’s taken me 4 years to get where I am. No one who already knows RoboHelp, Wise Installer, Lotus Notes and HTML is going to say, “Sure, I’ll take 24k a year, sounds great”. YEAH RIGHT! lol Only entry level people who I’d have to train will want that kind of pay. I still worry though, because it feels like I rarely have enough work to do. There’s usually a lull towards the end of the year though. Come January I’ll be buried under piles of Insurance forms.

I guess CMS is still down. I’m not allowed to check. I got in trouble for trying to log in yesterday to check if it was up. I really hope they get it fixed soon. If it’s not fixed by the end of the day today I might ask if I can work from home tomorrow on the e-mind courses or take a vacation day or something just for lack of anything to do.

Anyway, I’m going to go read my comics now.

Are the employees who get to leave one or two hours early being paid for that time? If so, that extra pay should be applied across the board to all employees. If not, it’s the company’s decision to have staggered shifts, and unfortunately, your boss is correct in that it’s a privilege. Not good company policy, however. But all corporations tend to be dysfunctional.
