“The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don’t.” -Douglas Adams

Well, the bad news is, I’m at work. The good news is my boss is out today, tomorrow, and Wednesday. Thursday we have a meeting where we’ll decide what manuals to put into the new Content Management System and what styles we’re going to want to use, colors, and such. I suggested moving my biggest project, the phone directory, over to CMS and my boss said I could do that one first!! WOOHOO!! The thing with the phone directory is that right now it’s only updated monthly because we’re using a helpfile system. After the helpfile is compiled I have to distribute it via a .exe file. The users have to take said executible and actually run it on their machine’s. This causes two problems. #1.) it generates phone calls for me any time something goes wrong on the users machine and #2.) many users don’t bother to run the file and their directory doesn’t get updated. This also results in phone calls for me when Joe Bob can’t figure out why Sally Joe isn’t listed in the telephone directory. Hmm. Putting this project into CMS will solve the problem as not only can it be updated instantly but I won’t have to send out the executible. 🙂 Woo to the hoo.

I love it when my boss is out. I can just sit here and type and think without having to worry about her dropping by. I hate having to constantly look busy. Really, if I worked to my full potential my boss wouldn’t be able to keep me busy. I started out working to my full potential and my old boss couldn’t keep me busy. I got to where I felt like a burden because I was constantly interrupting him for more work. I’ve found a happy medium though. I come in at 7am and leave at 3pm. I work, when I have work to do from about 10am-2pm unless it’s something highly important then I work from 8am-3pm. When I have very little to do I work in little bursts between reading things on the internet and if I get bored I’ll wander over to my boss and ask for something to do. Seems to keep everyone happy and I get to be lazy so I like it.

Technically I’m supposed to work on those online course thingys when I’m not busy but damn do those things suck the big one. I can deal with being taught to a test, I can live with it, I lived through it all through high school BUT I can’t deal with the inflexibility of the damned program. If you accidently click inside the window or something it counts that as your answer and will happily mark you wrong and send you on to the next question. Grrrr. I’ve gotten pretty good at clicking very…very…carefully, but hey, we all fuck up once in awhile. I’d rather be attending a college where I can make the 100% I deserve instead of getting a 95% because of the inflexibility of the damned electronic test. *fume* Not to mention in school we were NEVER taught this much to the test, we could select the underline button to underline text or hit Ctrl+U didn’t matter. So anyway, I’m pretty much going to tell my boss those tests are a crock of shit if she asks about them. I’m sure my co-worker will do the same if he tries them out.

So anyway, we’re planning to start working on our garden tonight. The weather is supposed to hold out warm and sunny 75-80 degree’s all week. Of course, I’ll have to resist my temptation to jump into the pathetipool instead of working on the garden, at least by tomorrow the water should be nice and cozy warm.

Also, I found some flower seeds our old landlords girlfriend gave me when we told her we were buying a house. I never planted them last year. I’m not usually one for seeds. Like I said before, I managed to forget to water my cactus enough that it died and we all know cacti don’t need much water. This is why I chose it. Anyway, I’ll try the seeds. I killed my pansies last year. Only 2 out of like 10 came back this year. We’ll be outside a lot more and since we’ll have to water the veggies I should remember to water my flowers…I hope. I really can’t be trusted with anything that lives and doesn’t make noise when it needs something. Short of my fish and that’s only cuz they sit right on my computer desk and I have a calendar in the bathroom with the days of their water changes marked on it. Cats meow if their water bowl is empty and Sara barks if we forget that she might need to go to the bathroom. Speaking of Sara, she should enjoy these nice warm days coming up and all the time we’ll be spending outside. She’s got herself quite the hole started over by some of the tree’s near the garden. Our yard is pretty much crap so we didn’t bother breaking her of the digging, she’s a dog, dogs like to dig, what the hell. She can dig herself a hole and lay in it if that makes her happy. Worse case she’ll get muddy and we’ll have to fill the hole in later. We’ve got moles that tear the yard up worse than she ever thought about.

So, hmm…anything else? Don’t know if I mentioned we won’t be able to grow popcorn this year. Corn air pollinates and if you put different kinds within 400 yards of one another you’ll end up with cross-polinated corn. Someone wrote in to this garden forum I use and said that a farmer she knew ended up with sweet corn cross pollinated with popcorn and it was the worst corn she ever tasted. So we’re kinda screwed unless we dig another garden on another part of our property 400 yards away from the sweet corn. I’m just happy I found that out BEFORE we planted. 🙂

Ah well, it’s 8am now and I have work to do so I better get to it. 🙂

But, but, but….wouldn’t you have sweet popcorn???? Computer tests SUCK. They just plain SUCK!!! The American Psychological Assn. offers online CE (continuing education–IL doesn’t require CE, but most states do) tests, and they’re the same way–if you click on the wrong answer, tough shit for you! Grrrrrrr……
