Two Shelves Down From the Cocaine

Okay then, trying to use the Linux version of Opera to write in OD has reminded me I should probably upgrade to the newest version of Opera, I’ve got some weirdo font thing going on but anyway Mozilla works so I’m set for now. 🙂

Hubby and I were just talking, we have the weirdest late night conversations sometimes, but anyway this guy who’s playing in a network game on hubbys bulletin board system accused us of teaming up against him. This guy has some serious self-confidence, everyone is out for me issues. At that point hubby started talking about this guys childhood which wasn’t the best childhood and explains a lot of his psychological issues.

But anyway, this got us on the topic of parenting and our own childhoods and the fact that neither me nor my husband never really got into trouble. You know how a lot of kids do things like drink bleach (eek!) but the thought of doing something like that never occurred to us. Maybe it’s because we’re both very literal people who have always done what we’re told and nothing else.

This brought us to another topic. My parents used drugs, my mom really only ever smoked pot but dated guys including my father who were into harder drugs like cocaine. What baffles me is that she claims she ditched my father because he was a drug addict but then started dating yet another drug addict. That’s not why I’m writing this though. I mention this because the whole we never got into things we weren’t supposed to thing reminded me of the fact that my little debbie snacks and my vitamins were kept in the same cabinet, 2 shelves down from where the cocaine, razor blades and the peice of cutting glass were kept. Appalling eh? My husband and I had very different childhoods. His family hardly ever even had alcohol in the house, it was opened like once a year at family picnics and kept in the fridge in the cellar the rest of the year. So here he is with parents who never drink while I’ve, on more than one occasion walked into the kitchen for a ding-dong and a flinstones vitamin and found my mom’s boyfriend snorting a line of cocaine.

It’s amazing I turned out as “normal” as I did. *chuckles*

and that’s all for now. 🙂

Wow, you know Brandi, it’s really amazing that you DIDN’T get into drugs, even to experiment, having grown up that way. Most people aren’t so lucky: If their parents did drugs, they are fairly likely to also do drugs. You are very lucky and maybe your AS protected you, huh? I wouldn’t be surprised if that were true; as you so nicely put it, being “literal” probably was helpful.
