Icy Roads

Well, tonight has been interesting to say the least. We were sitting in our nice warm cozy office playing Neverwinter nights when all of a sudden I hear a car skid, thud and then I hear snow hitting our house. There’d been an accident right outside our house on the icy hill. A young lady I’d say around 16 or 17 had lost control on the ice trying to keep from rear-ending someone that had pulled over. She’d spun out, nailed our mailbox and ended up safely stopped off the road in the snow bank that is our front yard. 🙂 Our mailbox definatly lived up to it’s name “indestructible” as it was safely out in the road with nothing but a bit of blue paint on it, no dents or anything. The young lady called her dad who showed up and pulled her out of the snowbank and took her safely home.

We came back inside, sat back down, checked e-mail and then I went off to take my shower. When I got out of the shower I listened and heard nothing. Hubby wasn’t in the house so I got dressed and went downstairs where I heard voices coming from outside. Sure enough, another car had lost control, another young lady maybe 17 or 18 had spun out and ended up hitting the rock wall across the street, she was shaken but also fine. The guy across the street had called the cops, one rescue worker had showed up but while he was dealing with this girl a mini van with a mother and young boy came around the corner, spun out and got t-boned by a car full of four teenagers. Then yet another car came around the corner, spun out, hit the snow but nothing else and drove off. We heard a few more skids but no more accidents at least.

So that was our interesting night, everyone congregated in our driveway. The good news is no one was hurt, just the typical airbags and seatbelt bangs and bruises. We stayed outside until everyone was cleared away and offered a telephone and a warm place to sit inside. Apparently the temperature dropped really fast and the road iced over really fast. Everyone is cleared away now and the road has been plowed and sanded but wow, it’s amazing how fast the roads can change. It’s nights like these I’m thankful we spend most of our time at home. 🙂 I guess in the morning we’ll be building a snowpile for our mailbox to rest on, there’s no way we’re digging a hole for the post in frozen ground hehe. 🙂

Well, off to bed I go, lets hope everyone else’s trip down mile hill is a safe one. 20 years or so ago someone spun out and their car ended up in the living room of this very house, there’s large rocks outside in an attempt to keep that from happening again but still, it’s a scary thought.

Good grief!!!! Your house must be a car magnet! What an exciting night! Not in a good way, though. Well, it’s been a quiet night here, so I’m thankful for that.
