101 goals in 1001 days… final tally
On October 1st, 2009, I posted an entry where I threw down a gauntlet that will keep me busy for the next three years. 101 goals to complete in 1001 days.
According to my math, 1001 days expired on June 25th, 2012. I am sorry to say that I didn’t complete all the tasks I set forth for myself. To be fair, this list was written a half a year before the separation/divorce which kinda threw a monkey wrench into my plans.
Despite that, I will make a final tally so see what the the final number was. So here goes:
Creativity:
001. Finish the three novels I’m currently writing (3/3)
I’ve actually completely 5 books since starting this list:
1) Comleting The List (2009)
2) The Summer Home (2010)
3) Rock My World (2011)
4) Outspoken (2012)
5) The Card Counter (2012)
Four of these are also three Nano projects, so that goal is done too!
002. Write one poem a month (55/34)
Not only have I written more poems, I posted a book and am halfway through writing another, so this one’s done too!
003. Write a short children’s story for Ethan
Not only did I write a children’s story, Ethan co-write it with me!
004. Write a romantic story that makes someone cry
I’m not finished the book yet, but there are chapters that make me cry. I guarentee someone will cry when I hand this one out.
005. Complete three NaNoWriMos (3/3)
The three books listed above were Nano projects. All three are great books that I am going to push for publication in 2012.
006. Complete two script frenzys: One adapted script (1/1) and one original script. (1/1)
007. Raise 660 dollars for charity writing the the next three Blogathons (1000+/660)
The Blogathon has either been cancelled or I’ve not been healthy enough to participate… but that doesn’t mean I stopped doing my part for charity. I’ve done a lot of face painting and other things to raise money for those less fortunate than myself. Over the last year I’ve raised over a thousand for various charities… so that’s still a win in my books.
008. Publish one book (1/1)
I’ve self-published several books. You can see them online on Smashwords and Lulu…
Self:
009. Loose 101 pounds (65/101)
Not finished, but still proud I got this far.
010. Get a new gym pass (1/1)
011. Make a few pieces of clothing that don`t fit… wearable again. (3/3)
Not only do things that not fit now fit again, I’ve had to poke two new holes into my belt. That’s progress!!!
012. Get an exercise machine for my new place
013. Finish pro level in all the Wii fit games (15/20)
Never happened, Leah and the kids use the Wii now.
014. Do something special for my 35th birthday (Oct 28th, 2010)
Rather than do something for myself, I took the boys to see the Wiggles which to them was quite a night. Sharing something fun with my boys is always special…
015. Get a new suit.
016. Learn how to play a song on the piano. (0/1)
I am going to resume lessons next year, I will make sure this one is completed and I will be posting a video to prove it!
017. Do Kareoke once a year (3/3)
I went to the final one with my support group, we had a great time!
018. Complete a walk for charity.
This one is complete. I did a walk for the ‘Kids Help Phone’ in May of 2010, and raised over $250 dollars for charity.

Playtime and Entertainment:
031. Reach level 75 with my Paladin in World Of Warcraft.
032. Play Starcraft II

034. Get 100% playing meduim on Guitar Hero.
I have it on my Wii, and Jonathan actually likes to dance around when I’m playing it.
035. Get 100% playing drums on Guitar Hero (on Medium).

036. Play drums and sing vocals on Guitar Hero at the same time while performing ‘Hotel California’.
This would have been cool, never got the time to try.
037. Take Leah to see a once in a lifetime concert (1/1)
Leah and I went to see KISS on Oct 2nd, 2009. These guys are Rock Icons and it was a once in a lifetime show… and we had a lot of fun.

051. Take a non-immediate family member out for dinner
052. Do something nice for a complete stranger
I completed this when I sent out some hand down clothes from Ethan and Jon’s closet that they no longer needed. They are being used by a kid in Missori who was in need of clothes for his size. Jon grew like a weed some some of the 24 months stuff I sent was hardly used. I’m hoping the little guy there will enjoy them.
053. Host a ‘V for Vendetta’ party on the 5th of November.
I actually did this. I only had a small gathering, but we had great food and watched V for Vendetta on Blu-ray. It was awesome!
Parenthood:
054. Teach Ethan how to ride a bike.
055. Take someone to one movie (in cineplex) once a month (33/34)
This one is being edited, because Ethan doesn’t like going to the movies that much. He hates being in a dark theatre. The ones put into the list now are movies I’ve taken a friend or a relative to go see.

Well here we are… the final total is: 71 out of 101 goals finished.
70% is not a bad finish, considering the amount of goals set. Odds of finishing this list were not bloodly likely, but just putting an effort to get this much done was worth the effort.
Evey though I’m looking back at this long past the deadline, I’m proud I was able to complete this much, which is more than half.
Does that really seem like a failure? I don’t think so…
Peter
Good job on losing 65 pounds. I know how hard it is. I had a nervous breakdown and ended up losing about 120 pounds a couple years back and I’ve been able to keep 80 off. Also, I don’t know if you’ve watched the Wire but I think you’d really dig it. I also recommend the non-fiction books from it’s creator, David Simon (Homicide: A year on the killing streets & The Corner).
Warning Comment
The other thing I’ve found with weight loss is that I treat it like a junkie in rehab. I can’t be healthy everyday, but I can be healthy today. I can work out today, I can eat well today. You let the future work itself out.

I’m so proud of you – getting through 70% of your list is awesome! I’ve just today come back to your diary after a hiatus. I purged a lot of my bookmarks a couple of years ago, and today your RC made me return.
