Monday School: Ontario School Board Bans The Bible
Hey, its Monday! That means it’s time for Monday School!
Even on Easter weekend, it’s still The Rational Corrective To All That Nonsense They Tried To Teach You Yesterday!
Today we’re going to look at a very interesting news article that caught my attention. Turns out an Ontario public school board has decided to ban the distribution of Gideon Bibles to its young students. The decision has unleashed a torrent of threatening calls and hateful emails directed at trustees. Just another example of good Christain morals at work… you know, JC did tell people to turn the other cheek after you send them death threats, right?
One email sent to the board members said: “When are you ‘politically correct’ idiots, with your heads buried in the sand, going to realize that every action you take to destroy Canadian heritage…?”
Another letter stated: “Allowing newcomers to Canada the ability to walk all over our heritage has got to stop before they carry us into the realm of a warring nation like the one they often left behind,”
I’m sorry… what??
I hate to break it to these ignorant Canucks, but Canada’s heritage is not Christianity. Most of the people who came across the ocean to both the US and Canada did so to get away from religious repression, not to expand it to another part of the world.
I also happen to think that the decision being made by this school board in Ontario is the right call. Handing out dangerous material that can be taken the wrong way to schoolkids who have no perspective on what you are trying to teach them is inappropriate and reckless. It’s also disrespectful to what they’re trying to teach inside the school.
How do you think church going folks would feel if I stood outside their church and tried to hand out copies of Charle Darwin’s ‘Origin of the Species’ to everyone (especially kids) as they left that morning’s sermon? I know how’d they respond, and yet they have no idea why people are offended with bibles being handed out at schools. Their ignorance is disappointing but now surprising.
Funny thing is, reading the bible doesn’t make you a christian. If anything it makes you an atheist. Most people to claim to be Christian have cherry picked only the good parts and likely have never read that thing from cover to cover. Usually when people actually do take on this task, and it’s a daunting one, usually one’s belief in it usually flies out the window the more of it you read.
Love thy neighbour. Turn the other cheek. Peace unto the world. I guess those rules don’t apply to the angry, hate-filled freaks who sent in the threats and hate mail. Christian Hypocrisy at it’s finest. This is the reason why school boards don’t want our children to read the bible. This kind of conduct is not becoming of a good citizen, and the less religion we have in our schools, the better!
Peter
The problem is that the bible is a mix of good morals with a load of mysticism. The good morals is what keeps people going back to it, I guess. The mysticism can not be proven anyway.

You know if it were free Korans being handed out at school, those same people would going out of their minds.

Umm, I mean, going out of their minds in a different way, LOL…

Wow… I dont see how banning the Bible from being handed out would change anything for the families and the children. I got a Bible very early. I saved for ages and bought myself a Precious Moments Bible after my first communion. But even with out that… there was my Mom’s Bible always in the house and i think my sister might have had one too…

my point being… If they’re already a Christian family their children should already have ACCESS to a Bible, and usually nicer easier to read copy then the Gideon’s Bible. I remember Bibles being handed out once at my school, and everyone swarming to get one because hey it was a book that was FREE so of course we had to have it. I dont think ANYONE read it
