Two days, two movies…

Last night I had a chance to hang out with my brother Chris and our friend Patrick and catch a movie. When Chris and Pat were flatmates, we used to see movies once or twice a month. Patrick moved to another part of town and this is the first time the three of us have seen anything in half a year. We went to see the movie Chronicle, which is a movie about a few kids that develop telekenitic powers and chaos ensues. Here’s a trailer:

I thought this movie was all right for another entry in the ‘found footage’ genre. I’m just pleased this film didn’t have the camera shaking all the time like other films like it. It allowed us to concentrate on the story itself and not distract the viewers. It was a decent film, and we all had a lot of fun watching it.

Yesterday, I got an email from one of the members of my ‘coping with divorce/separation’ support group. She was going to a check out a movie that was being shown at a local theatre for one night only. There is a local film festival group that runs screenings in town and shows films we would have a hard time seeing normally. I went out tonight to see a movie made by Montreal filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée titled ‘Café de Flore’ which is a beautiful film about two stories that occur 40 years apart and tie into one another in a bizarre and twisted way. Here’s the trailer to this film:

In a word: brilliant. I was hanging off of every word and completely drawn in by each character and their lives as they were shown. It was a very moving film that left me wrestling with the ending and how I shoudl react to it. It’s a film that’s going to stick with me for a while. I was really happy I went out to see it tonight, not only because I got to hang out with some friends from my group, but also for the reason that I got to see this masterpiece.

This movie is the best I’ve seen in quite a while, and I would recommend it to anyone who might have a chance to see on the big screen as it’s a visually stunning and bold piece of work.

Two different movies on two different days… now it’s back to the books and my life.

I need to watch a good movie. I too have watched two movies in two days, unfortunately they were ‘Incidious’ and ‘The Human Centipede’. Both terrible.

Good Lord, my sympathies to Rodge! I don’t say my chances of seeing “Cafe” are great, but I’ve been wondering how Chronicle was going to be. The commercials were intriguing.
