Early is always better than late…

The sitter/nanny called in sick today. Chris started work at 6am so he wasn’t able to cover. Since I’m not allowed on school property, I can’t take the kids to school… so… no school for the kids today! Ethan was excited enough to do cartwheels as his mom called the school and informed them that both boys would not be coming in today. Turns out it was for the best, whatever bug that was bothering the sitter, Jon picked up and he hasn’t been well all afternoon so it was the wise move to make afterall.

Before Jon took a turn for the uncomfortable, I still took the boys super early and did some shopping and then hit my workplace for my first paycheque. It was nice to have the boys a day early, and while it was extra work for me… I’m all for it if I get extra time with my boys. While both had their moments, they were both mostly good for me and I appreciated that. We had a great time and I even took them out for lunch. Then when we got home, Jon hasn’t been well since but he’s looking a lot better now.

Leah texted me earlier today, stating that she is planning on taking a vacation to Cuba with her new boyfriend. While what she does with her new dude really isn’t my concern as long is nothing illegal is going on, she let me in on it cause she wants me to take the kids for a few extra days. I don’t mind taking them for a few extra days, but I couldn’t help but ask her why is it that everytime she plans something fun, it never involves the kids.

Right now the biggest plans I’m making is for April 11th to see the Jays vs. the Red Sox as the Dome, and I plan to call in sick and play hookie with Ethan. My idea of fun includes the kids, and it just strikes me as odd that her idea of fun is always without them. Ethan asks me all the time if we can see movies, go to games and what not. I asked Leah if he pesters her half as much as he does me. He doesn’t, and the reason why is because he already assumes she doesn’t want to do anything with him. I informed her I found that very troubling.

Leah agreed that she should do more, and I even told her she was welcome to join me whenever I take the kids somewhere so she isn’t missing out on what are some great times with out boys. I don’t know if she’ll ever take me up on that offer but no one will ever say I didn’t try to include her when the kids stop seeing her.

Even though it’s only 9:30, I am going to hit the sack early tonight. I was up at 5am thanks to a sick sitter and with the boys likely to wake early tomorrow, I need to catch some Zzzz’s while I can.
