Going back a bit…

Everytime I start up my computer, I get numerous icons at the bottom in my tab that I close out just to get them out of the way. One of them was an AIM program that I rarely if ever use. I hadn’t used it in over two years. I don’t think I had ever logged into it since I came to Hamilton. Today, I logged in. Well, it took several attempts to figure out the password… but I got it on try # 10. I only had a small handful of people on my chat list, and they were all old OD people from yonder year ago. Of the group that was on this list, only one still writes here. That’s it, just one. For shits and giggles, I left the thing logged in all day to see if I would get any bites. Maybe someone would come online and I’d get to speak to someone who I had read or noted in a few years.

I got my wish just after supper time. I had just finished feeding the boys, and I checked back to the computer and low and behold… someone was logged in. I’m not going to give names here, but this person I have missed a great deal since she/he departed OD a few years ago. Might be half a decade, I’m not sure. But to see this person there was thrilling, and I sent out the first message just to see if the person was there. It resulted in a good chat that lasted for well over an hour. It was nice to speak with this person again, and find out what was going on for the last while. Some things were going okay, some things were not. Was the same for me and it was good to exchange updates and get back on the same page.

Coolest part is I got permission and was able to add the person to my facebook. So while I might hang out with my AIM a little longer to see who else I can bump into … this addition alone has made going back to it a lot of fun and worthwhile. Truth is, I moved a lot when I was younger and lost track of a lot of childhood friends very early in life. If I wanted to find them today, I wouldn’t even know where to begin. My own travels didn’t help that much either, but I plan to look a lot of people up when I eventually catch my break and get things rolling again. Speaking with this person today reminded me of a lot of important things: A) it’s never too late to catch up with a friend B) no matter how rough things can get, it can always get worse C) real friends never forget and are willing to pick up where you left off no matter how much time has passed.

It was the highlight to what was a very quiet day in what has been a very hectic week. But that’s another story that has “Favorite’s Only” entry written all over it. If I find the courage to spit something out, I might write about that sooner or later. For now, I hope everyone is having a good week, and I’ll catch everyone on the flip side on hump day. Until then, take care everyone…

Peter
