Ronald Reagan Endorses Obama!

An interesting feat I know, but the power of technology and the power of words past said is coming back to haunt people. A very interesting twist since this ad is made by the same person who created the orignal ad that featured the same memorable words. I’m sure he’ll get an earful from the right for this, but it’s still airing across the nation this week. and I’m sure Ronnie’s words from the grave will send a chill down some people’s spines.

Regardless of what you think of it, it’s still a brilliant ad. It uses a message that was good enough 28 years ago and applies it to today’s current mess, which is a result of GOP screw ups. The ad is not funded by Obama/Biden, is completely independent but does help them a great deal and really hits home with its message. So here is a small article and the ad in question, check it out!

Reagan Reprise Deployed By Creator Against McCain

In 1980, Jeff Goodby took a moment from Ronald Reagan’s debate performance and turned these words into an iconic advertisement and a cultural referent for political junkies that has lasted three decades:

“Are you better off than you were four years ago? Is it easier for you to go and buy things in the stores than it was four years ago? Is America as respected throughout the world as it was? If you don’t think that this course that we’ve been on for the last four years is what you would like to see us follow for the next four, then I could suggest another choice that you have.”

Now, Marc Ambinder is reporting that Goodby, who’s since brought the world those ubiquitous “Got Milk?” ads, is bringing “better off” back — but he’s working on the other side of the fence now, using the words of McCain’s hero against him.

Update: According to another source, Progressive Future has bought air time in both Ohio and Florida and this ad will start brodcasting in those states tomorrow.

Well if the right wingers bothered reading The Audacity of Hope to form their own opinion rather than garner it second hand from Rosie O’Donnell, they’d see the chapter were Obama gives credit to Reagan. And to Nixon. And to Bush Jr. That’s the “socialist” they’re all so scared of, when really he’s just left of centre.

I love it, even though it is tongue in cheek.
