On both sides of the border, it’s debate night!
Tonight my DVR is going to be working overtime. I actually have not one, but two poltical debates on televison this evening.
First is the English debate for all the canidates running for Prime Minister of Canada. Last night was the French debate and from what I gathered it went interestly well. I look forward to seeing the other four leaders beat Prime Minister Harper like a narc at a biker rally… and that should be fun. He deserves it considered his lousy policies and what not. I’m hoping New Democrat Jack Layton will have good showing as well, as it seems that the NDP are closing in on the Liberals for second in the polls. This is the only English debate before we hit the polls on October 14th so there are no do overs, no mulligans. You mess up tonight, you’re toast. Will be interesting to see how many haymakers there are and who makes them. I love to see a lot of zingers in a debate, and normally when you have four or five leaders at one debate… you’ll see a few as each one tries to make ‘the’ soundbyte that makes the airwaves in all the highlights. That’s always fun to watch, and I’m looking forward to checking it out, but I’m going to tape this one cause I want to be able to rewind and check things over again for review.
The other debate is the long awaited VP debate between Senator Joe Biden and Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin. This is going to be an interesting debate. I was talking to a bud of mine about this morning and he said the best line that details why many will be watching. It’s like going to watch a Nascar race. Sure you want to see who wins, but you’re also just as eager to see if there are any crashes. That about sums it up, people will watch to see them go in circles but we what we really want to see someone crash. It will be interesting to see who puts their foot in their mouth first… or who does it the most by the time it’s all said and done. Both are also know for tossing around some zingers, so this one could be a lot more active and nasty than last Friday’s debate. With both Biden and Palin known for being attackers when debating, I’m surprised this debate wasn’t booked in the Octagon.
Yet what I find realy amusing is that before the debate have even begun, the McCain camp is already making excuses… accusing the Moderator of possible bias. I could try to argue why attacking the moderator is complete BS, but Leah and I were watching Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC last night and he did a much better job putting this story down. Watch:
That about sums it up. Either McCain’s Campaign is trying to find any excuse they can prior to the debate or they really are poor vetters… since as Keith said you could have found out about this book two months ago just by Googling her name. I don’t think the McCain campaign is that idiotic, so let’s chalk this one up to check politics.
So tonight I’m going to be in political narvina. I’ve got two debates to surf between and check out and I’ll be here with cheese puffs, jolt cola and other munches to take it all in. I will of course post an entry about each debate tomorrow and what I thought about them. Until then, everyone have a good night.
Peter
I was disappointed that the VP debate here is pushing The Office off the air, but I’m sure it will be at least as entertaining. I missed last Friday’s debate & I’m not about to miss this one.

I swear, if I hear Alaska one more time…. I had two guests over to watch the debate. The first one left with hands over ears at 32 minutes as Palin was bypassing yet another of the moderator’s questions. The second left at 53 minutes, also during a Palin dodge. I just watched the ending. I won’t put my opinion here because some of your other readers will attempt to eat my lunch…but … Oh I’ll leave it alone.

Of course she’s biased towards Obama. She’s BLACK! She’s a WOMAN! She’s written a book so she’s clearly an ELITIST INTELLECTUAL LIBERAL! Are all the Jews who’ve written about the Holocaust Pro-Hitler? I’m just using that McCain logic. I’ve written, alas as yet unpublished, work on the Colombian civil war. I invite anyone who’s never read it to accuse me of bias towards the FARC or the AUC or the Government or whoever. Gotta love that bipartisan maverick eh?
