Russell Brand rules…

On Sunday there was absolutely nothing on television, and Leah said she wanted to watch the MTV Video Awards. Normally this would be the last thing I would want to watch, but since I could offer no better alternative… I had no choice but to concede and watch with her. I was aware that there was a actor/comedian from the United Kingdom hosting the event, so I had no idea what kind of jokes or stuff we would hear that day. I was pleasently surprised when Brand took the stage and worked what was a really tough crowd with some very huge political jokes, talking about the upcoming American election, holding nothing back. Leah and I were in stitches, and found Brand’s humor and message rather interesting and it made what usual is a chore to watch that much better to endure. He made some very interesting comments, but watch for yourself and enjoy:

Russell Brand’s MTV Video Awards Opening Monologue

Leah and I were geniunely surprised by the jokes and really enjoyed listening to Brand toss out some real gut busters. For the record, he’s not the first stand up to call Bush retarded. Chris Rock said it last year when he was asked if America was ready for a black President. He responded, “Why not? We just had a retard…”

I thought the jokes about Bristol Palin’s pregnancy were especially funny… (is it a boy or a Girl? No, it’s a PR stunt!). Now MTV was fully aware that there were going to be some people who didn’t like this kind of humor and you could tell by the warning they put when the show started and everytime it came back from commerical. Basically they said this show is live and despite our best efforts, there may and likely will be material that might offended, blah, blah, blah. Yeah they went all out to point out the fact the show is live so they can’t control everything and the host was one of them cause he was all over the place with his jokes. It was a lot more fun to watch than I thought it would be, and Leah especially enjoyed it. I guess a decent and funny host does make a difference.

Now I don’t want to hear people complain about how he should be allowed to make jokes about Palin or her daughter, cause everything tossed out into the public arena is fair game for all comedians. If Palin didn’t want her kids to be the butt of late night or stand up acts, she shouldn’t have trotted them out every chance she got. There’s a reason why the jokes of Chelsea Clinton were minimal if non-existant. It’s because she was kept out of the public spotlight and as a result the rest of the nation took the hint and did the same. Had the Clintons dragged her out often and exploited her and used her for campaigning and what not… the media and comedians would have done the same that what did/is happening to Palin. She chose to make her family an issue, so to complain about people talking about the issue is really silly and irrational. Everyone in the public spotlight is fair game and get shots taken at them all the time. Goes with the territory, it won’t get any easier from here…

But I’m sure there will be some who have a beef with the above material, but then again if everyone had a good sense of humor… it would be hard for us to appreciate those who do. Nuff said. I’m going to take off now but I’ll be around. Everyone have a good Tuesday!

RYN: I know about the exit of Petersen and the entrance of Fishburne. I’m actually pretty stoked – I always said I was gone with Petersen, but Fishburne was on my short list of actors who’d make me give anything a chance, and I actually wished a few years ago that he’d land a recurring role as a Vegas mobster to play Moriarty to Grissom’s Holmes.

RYN You would think that the girl will be prosecuted for perjury, etc, but I am not sure and do not even know how I can find out. About the T-shirts, they look great!
