Something different… a survey!

Some have been expressing political fatigue, so for them I present the following: a musical survey I got multiple tags on. Enjoy!

1. What is the type of music you like that would most surprise people that know you?

This will come as a shock but I am a huge fan of new age instrumental music. If you look at my CD collection you will see a lot of albums by Enya, Jim Brickman, Kitarō, Kenny G, Raul Di Blasio, John Tesh and Yanni. I really enjoy listening the the music when I want to relax and read a good book. I remember when I was in University I would listen to it all the time when I wanted to study or work on a paper. The lack of lyrics made it perfect to listen to cause it wasn’t distracting and helped me focus on what I was working on. So it wasn’t too quiet but not too loud for me either.

Recently, I had a chance to see John Tesh in concert, and that was quite an experience for me. I had a grand time, but one regret I had was that Leah didn’t want to go with me to check it out… but I wasn’t going to force her to check out a listen to music she isn’t that much into. I think she would have loved the show cause it was entertaining, but I’m not the kind of person to drag someone to a concert kicking and screaming. I’d rather go alone than do that to someone. For an example of one of Mr. Tesh’s works, here is a video from one of his live performances. If you are a fan of the NBA, you’ll find this song very fimilar…

2. What is the type of music you dislike that would most surprise people that know you?

Tell you the truth, I am not a fan of Hip Hop or Rap. I used to be a fan of Rap back when it was more authentic, but today’s rappers are nothing more than fakers and theives. Today they are taking someone else’s music rapping to it and calling it their own ‘art’ and acting like they composed the music or sometrhing. Whatever bro… you ‘burrowed’ someone art and just added some lame ass lyrics. Last time I checked you’re paying over some hefty royalties to the real dude who made the music, so give the whole artist thing a break, you’re a fake.

And todays hip hop artists are all the same, it’s about the bling bling, the big cars and either big boobed women or six pack men. And it’s not like I try to dislike these people, they give me enough ammo all on their own. Everytime the Black Eyed Peas come out and take a step forward with a bitchin’ song like ‘Where is the Love?’ that has a deep political message and says something, they take five steps back later with trashy songs like ‘My Humps’. Shit like that makes my toss up my arms and say I give up…

3. What is the movie that you like that would most surprise people that know you?

The movie I’m going to go with is the one that surprised me the most, Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge! I remember the night I first saw the movie cause Leah and I actually caught it on the big screen. That night we meant to see something else, but the movie I wanted to see was sold out. So because the movie I wanted to see was not available, Leah wanted to see Moulin Rouge, which was her choice. To tell you the truth, I wasn’t too keen on seeing the film… which was a romantic musical. But since there was nothing else really decent playing, I gave in and we went to see the film starring Ewan McGreggor and Nicole Kidman. Not only did I love this move, at the end of the year when I was asked ot submit my top ten films of the year by one of the sites I wrote reviews for… Moulin Rouge came in on the list I submitted as number one. It was not only a great film, it was the best film of that year. It was a masterpiece, and I loved it to death. I coudln’t get enough. I walked out of that theatre wanted to see it again. But we didn’t… cause Leah hated it. Go figure.

4. What is the movie that you dislike that would most surprise people that know you?

Forest Gump. After Rain Man I was no longer interested in watching the movies such as that cause it seemed like actors were lining up for those roles just to land themselves an Oscar nomination. This film as no differenet as it seemed to take this to the extreme which turned me off completely. It tried to be funny in a old nestalgic kind of way and for me that just didn’t work. I found a lot of the story and the acting to be horrid. How the academy could pick this comic crap over a cinematic cultural masterpiece like Pulp Fiction is beyond me. The fact that paramount gipped the writer of the original book of his royalties didn’t sit well with me either, bunch of lowlives. Thanks to this lawsuit, we were not forced to sit through a sequel… so I hope it never gets settled.
