This year’s big Comic Con movie trailers…
One of these days, I’m going to attend one of these festivals with my brother. Chris would love to go to one of these things cause he’s a comic nut. He’s love the exhibits and comic displays and love talking to the artists and what not. I’d love doing that to, but what I would love more than that are the setups and speacial stuff that movie studios do for these comic conventions. Every July when these things happen, the studios go out of their way to wow these audiences, trying to one up each other as the one studio that had the best movie trailer of the convention. It’s gotten so out of hand, it’s almost turned into an unofficial competition.
This year, two movie trailers were not even announced and just shown to a packed audience without any warning… which in turn completely blew them away. How do you think fans felt when they thought the studio screening was over, when someone else jumped on stage and said, “Hey, who wants to see one more trailer?” Fans at San Diego got that treat when actor Hugh Jackman made an unannounced appearance at the convention for his studio and screened the following trailer for next year’s X-Men spin off, the Origins film titled ‘Wolverine’:
As you can tell from the video, fans were taken by surprise and really enjoyed the treat. Not to be out done by that little extra treat, Disney hat an unplanned/unscheduled treat of their own when this trailer was shown at the end of their presentation when everyone also thought everything was already shown:
What can you say about that but… wow! A trailer to the long rumored but never confirmed sequel to Tron! I don’t know about you, but when I first saw that trailer I just about creamed my movie goer jeans… especially when I realized that Jeff Bridges was reprising his original role from the first film. In case you didn’t make out what to two guys said at the end of the trailer the guy lying down after his bike blew up said ‘It’s only a game!’ to the guy standing above him. The other guy before he struck said ‘Not anymore.’ Fucking sweet! That scene was the bomb, and one of the best trailers I have seen in a long, long time. With all the CGI that is available to them today, I actually was happy to see that they didn’t go overboard with the graphics. Less was better and more loyal to to the original film or base code of you want to call it that. But this is a teaser in every sense of the word, as the film is slated for a 2011 release. 3 years from now! Talk about a tease!
Here’s another that was a big hit, the teaser for this year’s Harry Potter film, the Half Blood Prince:

Here is one interesting hero movie that I think will be facinating to watch that was a big hit at Comic Con, The Watchmen:
And this next one that had fans talking is the new one from writer/director Frank Miller. I loved Sin City so I’m dying to check out this new film titled ‘The Spirit’:
Trailer: Frank Miller’s The Spirit
While this last clip was not shown at comic con, since I’m showing movie trailers… I’m finishing off with this one cause I know it will please a lot of my readers. This is the long awaited trailer for the new James Bond movie, Quantum Of Solace which like the Harry Potter movie comes out this November. Check it out:

I know… looks very cool, eh? Even if you don’t intend to see all of them, combine these with the usual slate of Oscar/drama films that usually come out between now and summer, you can’t say there isn’t going to ney anything decent to watch in the next while. I might check one or two of them out, and likely the rest on DVD. Definitely going to check out Bond and hopefully the kids will be old enough to watch Tron with their old man when it comes out next decade.
But at least there’s something for everyone, right?
Peter
Watchman trailer didn’t really grab me but I am looking forward to it. I saw a link the other day that matched the trailer to frames from the comic and it looks like an extremely faithful adaptation on that evidence, lets hope it translates as a truly great film.

TRON 2?!>?>!!!!!! That is so exciting that I can’t even type properly. Jeff Bridges is in it too? I’m having multiple geek orgasms over that, I can’t wait til 2011! I did hear about Watchmen and, of course, I will have to see the new Harry Potter since I loosely follow the HP saga. You have fine taste in films, mate!

Well…if you go to Comic Con, don’t shower for about a month b/c from what I understand…the entire convention smells like a gym locker.

RYN: I do! I’m on Earthen Ring and Sentinels mostly. My main is a 65 Belf Hunter on Earthen Ring, although I do have a hordie or two running about.
