Clinton cites assassination as reason to stay

The infamous comment is “I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy..” but that isn’t true if your name is Hillary Clinton. Her campaign is in serious damage control after she made what I truely believe is the worst gaffe since her quest for the nomination began. Sen. Clinton made a reference Friday past to the assassination of Robert Kennedy in 1968 during the Democratic campaign as one of the reasons she should continue to campaign despite increasingly long odds. Here are the exact words she said in her attempt to explain why she didn’t understand, given this history, some Democrats were calling for her to quit:

“My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. You know I just, I don’t understand it,” she said, dismissing the idea of dropping out.

That is the quote, and just in case you were worried that she might have been quoted out of context… here’s the video:

So while everyone else in the is hoping or praying for a safe campaign for all involved, and that all canidated including Barack Obama will stay safe during the election process. While the average person is hoping for the best, this comment would suggest that Hillary Clinton is hanging on in the hope that her opponent will be assassinated! That is SICK!!!

I’m not old enough to remember the Kennedy assassinations, but I’m sure the world lost two dedicated public servants when their lives came to a premature end. Sen. Clinton should be ashamed that she’s even thinking about such a thing, much less saying it publically. Saying anything this crude about the Kennedys is pretty untasteful right now, especaully considering that Ted isn’t feeling too well right about now.

Still, Hillary doesn’t seem to think about anyone else right about now, she’s only out for number one. This is one reason why no one wants her to be President. I have no doubt that the US is ready for a Madame President, I just think the country deserves their first to be a little classier than this Senator whose true colours have come out during this nomination campaign. She’s a distasteful person and the last person I want to see take over the Whitehouse in January.

I guess you’ve really sunk to a new low when you’re holding out for someone to take a shot at your opponent to win the nomination by default! Forget the super delagates… she’s hoping Jethro from the south is going to take care of the process for her and take a shot and the her opponent and win the nomination for her by process of elimination. For her to even consider such a strategy is dispicable. Now we have McCain calling on Obama to take a trip to Iraq… are the Repubs hoping that the insurgents will do the same and take a shot at Barak? Whether or not Obama goes there I guess will depend on if he wants to or if the Secret Service is comfy with the idea of trying to protect him over there.

But is that how afraid these people are of him? They feel a bullet is what it will take to stop Obama. Their reason to hope for Obama’s assassination is simple: neither believe they stand a chance in hell of beating Barak in a fair vote at the polls…. and they’re right.

You know how much I loathe Hillary but I don’t think this was her expressing the hope that Obama would be shot. I think it was a pathetic, clumsy attempt to try to keep herself relevant by pointing out that past races have been decided in June or later. To me, the more appalling and disgraceful comment was her comparing Florida’s delegate controversy to the state of terror in Zimbabwe.

It’s Hilary, she sees snipers everywhere

She’s right in that it’s always possible that a candidate for President may get assassinated or might die of a heart attack or something along those lines. Is that a reason to stay in the race? It might be but what’s the point in saying that publicly?

I have to ditto the popeyechicken on this one. I watched the video before and she threw that quote out there without malice. Kind of a ‘open mouth, insert foot’ moment.

If there is a God, he sure is a great satirist.

… I read her quote, and it’s like two pages of the script stuck together. It just doesn’t make any sense. She’s talking about two different things, and using “June in California” to connect them. It’s… bizarre.

If you followed hil’s campaign for the ny senate back in the day, you would have seen even worse pandering. I fully expected every tacky trick she has tried to pull. Also I love the “i don’t know” that she repeats…tehn gives an answer. typical.

I think it was an unfortunate choice of words for Clinton. What is more disingenuous perhaps, is the fact that in 1992, her husband run unopposed from March on. To all intents and purposes, he had clinched the nomination when Tsongas dropped out in March. I think that was Clinton being intellectually dishonest.

I think that it is clear that Clinton was trying to make the point that Bobby Kennedy was still campaigning in June when he was shot, which is even more clear from the previous sentence about her husband. She wast trying to show that in the past primaries have occasionally continued all the way into June. Could have been articulated better, but the meaning is there. So I think it is a bit ridiculous to say that Clinton was actually suggesting that she should remain in the race because Obama might be assassinated.
