An evening with Jesse Cook…
Last night was the Jesse Cook concert at Hamilton Place theatre downtown, and in a nutshell the show was amazing. I’m a huge fan of Mr. Cook and two hours and two encores later, the crowd was overwhelmed with great music and an artist who clearly knows how to pick a string. The show was a very, very simple set up. Just a handful of guys on stage with their instruments and that was about it and that was all we really came to see anyway. When the music is good you don’t need pyros or fancy stage props, and the show was everything we thought it would be and then some. He played a lot of the stuff from his new album, which was so awesome I bought a copy after the show… and then he also played the favorites I hoped he would play as well.
I also can’t remember the last time someone did two encores at a show I attended. I think it was the Blue Rodeo concert in 97 but that was a while back. Mr. Cook did two encores and really put the show away with a killer acoustic version of his Crowded House cover “fall at your feet” which was a crowd favorite. After the show was over, I went out and got pizza for Chris to show my appreciation for him watching the kids while I was out checking out this amazing show, then went to bed early. That crappy digital camera in question wasn’t able to take and decent shots of the show, so I swiped a few from a website, but they are very similar to the setup they had at the show last night. Also there is a video of one of the older tunes that he performed last night too… and one of my personal favorites.
(Simple Stage, great music…)
(Talking to the audience and cracking some funny jokes…)
(This is Melissa McCelland, who sang a few songs that night…)
Overall it was a bitchin’ show, and it’s just a shame Leah wasn’t there to share it with me.
Maybe next time…

I’ve seen 2 encores, usually one song each. It really depends though, it’s like ‘band protocol’. Fear Factory is pretty generous with encores, Tool gives an incredibly cheap single song.

I remember the best two encores ever, METALLICA! I was so excited. I think we were one of their first concerts of the tour so they went all out. It was so memorable. I will never forget how awesome that concert was. I love Metallica.
