A writing update…
It’s been a week since I wrote the final page of my novel, and things are still fast and furious since that was completed. I’ve been working on revisions, and for the second time in as many weeks, I’ve been contacted by a literary agent. This one specfically mentioned that he’s very interested in the novel and wants to see a few sample chapters. I’m very humbled that someone out there came back and specificaly said that they are interested, casue that gives me the impression that I have a chance out there. I’ve decided to send out chapters 2 through 4 because those introduce the pivitol characters and also hash out the best parts about the plot and the parts that will be very contraversial. I’m hoping this agent will see the story and realize how profitable this book will be if it hits shelves. Contraversy is nothing to fear and can actually help you sell a few books, just ask Dan Brown.
So I’m working on those three chapters right now, and have decided to wait until Monday to mail them out. I want to give a few days to go over them, and I’ve also printed the chapters and will let someone I trust go over them and give some feedback. That way the chapters will be their best when sent in. I need new eyes for it, so this is the best way to go.
As if I didn’t have enough to do, I started a new book. I was reading some political editorials online, and suddenly an idea popped into my head. I came up with an idea that would make a bitchin’ novel… so rather than let it pass, I opened a notepad and immedately began to scribble down plot ideas and ideas of where I might want to take this thing. I took down a lot of notes, and then before I knew it I was four pages into the first chapter. I have no intention of writing the whole thing up right now, but I was in the zone for this project and just jotted it down while the idea was still in my head. When that happens, normally I would stop what I’m doing and write it down so I don’t lose it and never get the original idea back.
Just becasue I’m done one book doesn’t mean I’m not going to write anything new while I’m doing revisions. When an idea comes to me or I feel inspired to jot down something new, I’ll do it and then go back to revisions when I’m done. I don’t want the novel I just finished to be the only that I publish. I want to keep writing till I’m old and grey and can’t do it no more. I want this to be a career, not a fad. I’m hoping that kind of attitude and other novels on the back burner ready to go will prove to any agent that I am serious about what I’m doing. I have a lot of books stored away, ready to go should I want to write something new. Ideas I have plenty of, time to sit down and write them out has been my problem over the last decade.
So that’s where I stand right now. I’m going to go over those chapters and clean them up and then send them out to this prospective agent. Part of me wants to go to Toronto tomorrow and deliver the chapters in person, something I could do since Dad is in town. But for now, I’m going to just work on revisions and decide later. Hope everyone else is having a good night, and I’ll be back later.

That’s great. Congrats! Sounds like you have a good plan and will do great. Here’s wishing you good luck on the agent.

Good luck with the agents. And the best time to start writing something is just after you get the idea. It’s fresh in the mind, so easier to do.
