First real day at the new job

After a quick week of training, it’s now time to hit the phones full time and start earning some real dough for the family. I’m in around forty minutes early just to make sure I’m able to log in properly and start on time and with the right tools. I’m picky about things like that and the last thing I wanted to do on my first day was spend the opening hour of my first shift asking for codes and how to log in. All that crap should be taken care of before everything starts not after. I’ve always been the kind of guy who came in early and got all the stuff logged in and such before everyone else arrived for the same time. Just the way I prefer to work…

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. Despite doing this exact job for the last two years at another center, I’m still on edge and worried. I guess the new place and new people to work with might be the reason for the nerves, but I have no reason to be worried. The people here are nice and outgoing and would do whatever they can to make the first day go a smoothly as possible. It’s amazing what a difference the little things make. I’m working on a LCD computer monitor and it’s not as hard on the eyes as a normal screen, and I’ve got a wireless headset to take the calls with. No leash means that I can stray from my desk and help others if I wanted to or seek help from others if I need it without being restricted.

So here I am with 20 minutes to go until I gotta log in and take the calls. My plan for today is very simple: get it right. Speed is not the key for today, that will naturally kick in with the more calls I take. The goal for today is to get the calls right and make sure they are all resolved properly. The more calls I take the easier they will get with repetition. So I’m going to make sure calls are resolved, notes are taken and stashed properly and then with time I’ll be able to do the same faster and faster. I learned that from when I was working with an auditing company back on the island. My boss told me the key is to count everything up correctly, and with practice you’ll be able to do it faster and eventually I did. The same thing goes for everything else. While speed is nice, it’s no good if the job isn’t done right so that is what you should do first and things will work out.

So that’s my plan for today. I’m still a little nervous but I’m sure that will pass with each call that I take. But the best thing is that I’m allowed to surf the net between calls, so I’ll be able to stay online with OD and leave a few more entries if the day is slow and a ton of notes for the favorites. So I’m going to get ready to start. Wish me luck and I’ll be back hopefully sooner than later…
