First day at the new center…

I was a little hesitant to come back to another call center, but that fear was soon one of relief when I realized what kind of work atmosphere that I was walking into. Compared to the center I left, this place is so informal. People eat at their desks, surf the net and as long as they take their calls and do their work… managers don’t seem to care what they do between calls. There was only a small handful of people for my training session, but that was because most new recruits preferred to take the afternoon sessions for whatever reason.

This place was so at ease and friendly. I could hardly believe it. People were eating at their desks, drinking from cans and other no sealable containers, all which would have resulted in written warnings at my old center. This place was like the anti-christ to the center I just left, and the more I saw of it, the more it appealed to me. I know how to take the calls and resolve the issues, so once I get used to the new software and how to use them… it’s smooth sailing from there.

While the dress code is rather formal (casual dress, no jeans or t-shirts) , everything else is rather easy going. I couldn’t believe it, but seemed to go with the flow. As long as I take the calls the way I did at the other center and am my usual efficent self, I should be just fine. I like the place and seem to think as long as I do my thing and not cause any problems, I’ll mesh in just fine! I’m looking forward to day # 2, and I hope things go even smoother than that… if that’s at all possible.

It was a good day and to make things better, the bus stop was right in front of my new center and dropped me off only three blocks from where I live. No transfers, just one straight bus to and from work. As if I needed another reason to love this job… which I do not. While it’s the same work, that was never a problem with the last job. Management was, and that doesn’t seem to be a problem here. If I can’t make it work here, than I’m hopeless. I have a feeling that I’ll do well, I’ll just need to shake the rust off and get back to work.

It was a good day, and it’s looking good so far (knock on wood). I’ll post another entry soon to update people on how things are going, but for now I’ve got to help out with the kids and stuff. Until then, everyone take care and I’ll be around…

Dude, seems like you got a winner! However, I foresee one possible drawback: if you indeed have time to surf the net, let me be the first member of the reading public to expect more entries. 😉

rYn: hey, perhaps the looper had one of those guns that “john maclaine” always seems to get hold of in “die hard 1-14”: they NEVER run out – maybe he just got bored shooting? DIMITRI xx
