Moving, blizzards and settling in…
I wish I could write an entry about how the move is finished and that Leah and I only have to clear away the clutter to be done, but I can’t. Thanks to some really horrid weather, we were unable to complete the move despite our best efforts. Our landlords will have to be understanding cause this is the best we can do based on the situation. The good news is that all the big stuff is moved and mostly put together. The only stuff still at the old place is small clutter that is taking a while to pile up and move over. The movers did a really good job with our furniture, but didn’t move everything which did disappointment me a little. Leah and I went back to the old place one person at a time to clear out and move stuff over but the weather that night was pretty much blizzard conditions and hampered our effort to finish the move. With me working today, we’ll have to wait for tomorrow when I’m off to finish this thing up.
The new place is a little cluttered, but Leah and I did some strategic cleaning to make the place livable for the meatime. The kitchen, living room and ethan’s room are all pretty much cued up and liveable. So what we did was after Ethan went to bed, Leah and I crashed on the couches and Jonathan had a good snooze in his carseat, which he actually has no problem with cause the confinement reminds him of good times in the womb. So we’ve managed to get a lot of stuff stashed and like I said the living room and Ethan’s room are all taken care of. So tomorrow on my next day off, I plan to clean up Jonathan’s room and our room so that everyone can rest well this weekend. Later today the phone and the television hooked up today as well. While I don’t mind going without TV, Ethan was off the walls yesterday, so it will be nice to have the distraction for him again later today, The kids and the cat seem to be adjusting to the move a little better than we had anticipated. Once we get everything put in the right place, I’m sure that will just get better as time goes by.
So the big stuff is moved, and we’ve just got a small bit of little crap to go. I’m hoping to get that done sooner than later and once it’s all moved over, putting all the stuff away will be all right cause we can pace ourselves and not run ourselves to exhaustion. We’ll have plenty of time to make sure everything has a good spot to stash away, it’s only a matter of time before we get settled in. With a little luck we’ll get most of it done by the time the wedding arrives. So far things are cool with the new appartment. While cluttered, we can see that it will be a little easier to live at this place, especially since each kid will have their own room. So one day at a time, we’ll get settled in eventually. The cable internet is not hooked up yet, so my time on OD is limited right now. I’ll be back soon.. but make no promises. So until then, everyone have a good week and weekend and I’ll do my best to be around when I get back online.

I’ve never ceased to be amazed at how readily one accumlates stuff. For years, when I was single, I could move in a couple of truckloads, usually without much help. Then I got married, and our clutter easily doubled in size. Today, with three children, moving requires a crew of professionals (usually four people) three days to box everything, a half day to load the truck (full sized moving van),

and about a day to unload at the other end. I have no clue where it all came from, but somehow, we seem to need everything. I look back fondly at being an impoverished ascetic.
