Shovelling Snow and moving
Not a very good combination, but what Leah wants… she gets.
Like I stated in my earlier entry, the weekend was a rough one… but now that I’ve had a little rest I’ll used this chance to go into a little more detail. I woke up around 6am to help Leah get a few moments sleep since she had a rough night with Jonathan, but since the skies were clear, my bud Stephen wanted to get the fragile stuff moved, but there was a catch. His driveway was burried under four feet of snow and he needed help getting it shovelled out. Since Stephen was willing to use his car and his arms to help me move stuff to the new place, so the least I could do was offer to shovel out the driveway for him out of appreciation for his help.
So I tossed on some clothes, woke Leah up and took off for Stephen’s place which is only a short 10 min walk away. Once there, we grabbed some shovels and worked for about 90 minutes before taking a break. At that point we were half finished. I cooked up some eggs and breakfast for all while taking a break and then we went back out to finish it out. We were getting to deepest part of the driveway at the tip by the road, when I saw something down the street. I saw a huge contruction plow heading our way, and he was obviously on his way to the mall or some big place to dig them out. I waved him down and he stopped for me.
“How much to finish this off?” I quickly asked.
He took a quick look, “Twenty Bucks.”
“Deal.”
I took out my wallet and whipped out a green bill and handed it over. It took him about 3 minutes to plow out what would have taken us an additonal two hours to complete. The best twenty I’ve spent in a long, long time. With the shovelling done, it was not time to start to get the move on the go, but we took a break and had a little fun first. I woke up Ryan (Stephen’s Roomie) and told him that he had to help us with the shovelling cause Stephen had to get his girlfriend to work. We needed his help so it was time for him to get up and get working. Ryan knew Stephen’s girlfriend had a job so he took us for our word and grumbled out of bed. He tossed on some snow pants, gloves, coat and boots and then grumbled out the door. The look on his face when he walked out to the already finished driveway was priceless. It took actually about a minute for his tired brain to register that we were yanking his chain and he was less than impressed. The fact we were indoors laughing our asses off was another hint that we were fooling with him. I cooked him some scrambled eggs so he wasn’t too angry after that. He even volunteered to help us move some boxes into the new appartment, so off we went.
Over the next six to seven hours, we managed to make five trips to the new appartment and move a good few things over. It wasn’t an earth shattering amount of stuff moved over, but it was at least a start which was good considering the weather. I took the guys out for lunch to show my appreciation, and even picked up some goodies for Leah and Ethan. We barely dented the stuff at our house, but like I said before it was a good start. At least we’re getting some stuff moved over and things are at least underway, even though it was a day late. Stephen did a great job helping us out and I’ll have to do something nice for him next month to show my appreciation for him doing that on his day off. We got a bit done, and we’ll have to do a bit more going into Wednesday, but I don’t care if I have to pay extra… we might have to get the movers to take a bit more than previously requested. There is a lot of crap there I didn’t anticipate, and I can’t toss it out. Needless to say, this is going to be a very interesting week. Not only are we moving everything on Wednesday, but we’re getting more snow as well so the movers will have a lot of fun working with that.
Anyway, I crashed super early last night… around 9:30pm and slept like the dead. My arms are still aching but like I said before at least I’m not going to be moving the heavy stuff. Thank goodness for movers! So that was my weekend. Check out the previous entry for photos taken of my adventure, and be amazed by the drifts of snow out there on the island. I’ve got to get to work, so everyone have a good Monday and I’ll do my best to be around.

Dude, next time you need someone to shovel your snow, call me. I love shovelling. I do it for free, seriously. (Does that make me a bad capitalist?)
