Blizzards, Doritos and Gay Cowboys…
Leah and I had to postpone the move of our fragile stuff because we got slammed with a massive blizzard. You couldn’t see 5 feet infront of you and we must have had four feet drop on the ground in 24 hours. It wasn’t exactly the best weather to try to move things, especially the breakables. We’ll try to move some stuff this morning instead, and then the rest of the stuff on Wednesday. So without anything to do, Leah and spent most of the day packing stuff up and taking care of the kids. We managed to get a bit done, and also cleaned up the house a bit. I tossed a lot of crap into the trash as well, getting stuff out of the way to help the move as well. Once we start getting stuff into the new place, the job will at least look workable, so I’m eager to just get things started.
At least one store across the street was still open, so I was able to hit the place and pick up a few goodies for Ethan and Leah for them to munch on. Some bananas for the little guy, a Mars bar for Leah along with some doritos and Cherry/Vanilla Dr. Pepper for myself. After Ethan finally went to bed that night and Jonathan had his 8pm feeding, Leah and I decided to watch a movie. A good friend of mine took the time to burn me a bootleg screener of the Academy Award nominated film, Brokeback Mountain. Leah was eager to check it out, so we watched it last night, and it was an amazing piece of work. Leah actually liked it as well, and was in tears and tearing up the tissue box by the time the movie ended. It was a sad romantic tale of forbidden love, and while not the traditional kind of romantic movie, Ang Lee did an amazing job making a movie that everyone can feel for, regardless if they are gay or not. With good characters, and a storyline that was sad and hopeful at the same time, it was a movie that I would recommend. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see this sweep the Oscars as it’s the kind of thing they would usually hand out a boatload of awards to.
I can also understand why some people are threatened by this movie. The men in the movie who have an affair are not painted with the usual stereotype that people are used to seeing associated with homosexuals. The characters of Ennis and Jack are portrayed as normal, run of the mill Cowboys… no different than all the others. I don’t many homophobes will be impressed with this shattered of the normal stereotype and be offended by this film. Ennis was afraid of being attacked and killed like a homosexual was in his town when he was a kid. This fear lead to their affair being a longtime secret, though in the end we learned as always that no affair is secret from your spouse. Someway they always aware of what’s going on. Major kudos Ang Lee for making such a refreshingly honest romance that goes against all the norms of its genre. It’s a touching tale that I think is going to surprise a lot of people. It’s one of the better movies I’ve seen in a while and I won’t be surprised if it walks out with Best Picture on March 5th…
So that was our Saturday. We did a little work, cuddled up to a realy romantic movie and the crashed early for the night. I got a lot of moving to do today, and am eager to get things on the go. I’m gonna whip him an omelet for Ethan’s breakfast and then get back to work. So I hope everyone has a great Sunday and I’ll be around!

I knew you would like the movie. I have yet to meet someone who hasn’t. All the people who are complaining about it haven’t seen it yet…or at least that’s what it is like around here.

Good luck with the move, whenever it happens!

I’ve thought about seeing the movie but from all I’ve read, it seems like an ordinary love story movie but with two cowboys. Now I realize that distinction alone is a bit different from most love story movies but I wonder if it’s enough on its own to merit all the superlatives critics have given it.

was it ‘filmed in the theater’ bootleg, or of actual good quality?
