Should I stay or should I go?

Things at work haven’t been getting any better at the call center, and after last week’s incident… the powers that be are not too fond of me at the moment. I made a mistake, that being to actually verbalize complaint about the piss poor management they are doing of the center floor. Everyone was thinking it, I apparently was the only one to have the balls to say it to their face. Needless to say, I’m not the most popular guy in the building but that’s okay. I never went there to win a popularity contest, and since they don’t base their promotions on who worked the hardest… I started to not give a rat’s ass what everyone thought of me. Needless to say, my status in the call center has come into question. I’ve pretty much been given the impression that I would not be missed if I went, and while I’d like to stay and keep making the good dollar… would anyone really want to work in a enviroment that hostile?

Needless to say, just incase of the worst case scenerio… I shopped my resume around. To my surprise, a few other companies in town that do similar work to what goes on at my center expressed interest. One of them even went as far to say when their next training class started to let me know how soon I could have started. Depending on what the company’s offer and when I can start… I might be tempted enough to jump ship. Worse yet, I’m getting the impression that last week’s crossing might come with some penalties just yet. Yeah, that’s how friggin’ slow they are at the center.. they can’t punish anyone with great efficency either. And the longer it takes them to actually slap my wrist for telling them off, the longer people are going to laugh at them for dragging their heels even to do that much. Pathetic…

So I’m at a bit of a crossroads. While the grass I’m pasturing might be the greenest around, temptation to start over with a clean slate might be hard to pass up. Yet whether or not I go will depend on how hard they crack down on me for what happened. Regardless of how disrespectful I’ve been, I’m a hard and very productive worker and service level on the floor is too low for them to part with someone who is capable of work I do for them day in and day out. Chances are if they try to push too far, I might threaten to leave unless they back off… it’s a chip I might use if I think it will be effective. I’m hoping that by the time that might happen, I’ll have a firm back up to fall on if they call my bluff. I’m willing to admit that I pushed my luck, but I’m not going to let them stomp on me for it. Regardless, it should be interesting to see what happens.

I’ll keep everyone informed as the soap opera that is my call center goes on. Regardless of what eventually happens I hope everyone has a great weekend and a happy new year…

Peter

No need to let them know one way or the other that you are shopping around. Being in sort of the same situation as you (only it’s not me being vocal) I say take any offer that put you in a new environment. I am big on the change thing.
