Leah’s last pre-birth appointment…

Leah had her last appointment with her doctor before going into the hospital this monday for her scheduled C-Section. Leah is getting really big, but it’s all belly. You can’t pinch an inch on her belly anymore and every movement the baby makes can be seen from the other side of the living room. It’s quite freaky. So I was eager to hear what happened as I couldn’t be there for her and had to go to work that morning. So without further adue, here is the skinny on her appointment:

  • Leah is 38 weeks into her pregnancy, but according to her doctor… she’s measuring at 41 weeks. We have two ultrasounds that says there are no twins, so I’ve seriously considered calling our new son Shaquille. (JUST KIDDING… Leah would never approve that name!)
  • based on the baby’s enormous size, her doctor pretty much said a C-Section is a given… even if her water breaks before the scheduled appointment. I’m relieved to hear that cause I don’t think Leah should be forced to pass Shaquille naturally. He’s looking to be 11-12 lbs.
  • Even though her belly is bigger than what it was this time with Ethan, Leah hasn’t gained as much weight this time out. That’s really weird but I don’t question it. Her weight gain is pretty much 90% belly/baby. Chances are once the baby is born she’ll lose 60% of her weight overnight in Baby weight and water/placenta.

Another cool thing is that after the appointment, Leah went to the Children’s hospital to pre-admit for her section. She also got to pre-book a private room, which is being covered by my company’s medical benefits. This is cool cause it mean’s Ethan and I will be able to visit longer and not during regular visiting hours that would bug other people in the regular rooms. I think Leah will appreaciate the privacy this time out, which was lacking when she was recovering two years ago with Ethan. So it’s all setup, and now all we have to do is wait the last few days till Monday, which I have successfully managed to trade for. Now I won’t miss any work to see my new child’s birth. Kind of important and not something to miss, eh?

One more thing to note, we had a guest over for supper on Wednesday night. Lady Dmaj was able to get away from the books to join us for Chicken Enchiladas and hang around to talk for a while. It was nice to see her again and I could tell that Leah liked having someone over to see her. It was a fun time had by all, and the food was kickass as well cause Mom makes amazing enchilladas. Dmaj is in the middle of finals at the University, so it was nice of her to drop by during such busy times… and as always it was good to see her again. Hopefully she’ll visit after the new baby arrives.

So that’s it for now. Tomorrow is also going to be a big day, as we are going to get Ethan’s Xmas portrait taken. We’re going to have a family portrait taken, and then a few Ethan solo shots taken. I will be paying an extra $12 to get the pics on disc so I will be posting them online ASAP for all to see. Should be very, very cool. Chances are I’m also going to post an entry about tonight’s Election debate. All four Canadian party leaders are going to have it out for two hours on TV. Should be interesting to check out, as I really think that it’s going to be fierce and open… unlike the controlled and lacking debates we saw during last year’s Presidential debates in the States. So until then, everyone take care and have a bitchin’ Friday!

When our first was born (the big one at 10 lbs, 7.5 oz)and my wife had her water broken, practically nothing dribbled out. I commented to the doctor that I had been expecting more water, and she gave me a nasty lok and said “That’s because you let the baby get so big!”. As if I had anything to do with it- she was even being induced on her “scheduled” delivery day. It was a vaginal delivery, btw.
