Predictions: 2005 PRIMTIME EMMY AWARDS

It’s that time of year again. The Primetime Emmys are less than six hours away. So here are my predictions on who I think will win as well as the nomination I think should win instead. So without any further delay… here are my pics:

2005 PRIMTIME EMMY AWARDS

Best Drama Series

– 24 (Fox)

– Deadwood (HBO)

– Lost (ABC)

– Six Feet Under (HBO)

– The West Wing (NBC)

Who will win: The West Wing (NBC)

Who should win: The West Wing (NBC)

Comments: Over the last five years, The West Wing won four Emmys for best drama up until last year when finally taken by that Gangster show on HBO. Two things lead to end the four year streak, Wing had a below average season, and the other shows did not. This year, the Sopranos are not nominated and the Wing made a huge comeback season thanks to some great performances by Smits and Alda. Despite great seasons from other shows, it will not be enough as The West Wing will reclaim the prize.

Best Comedy Series:

– Arrested Development (FOX)

– Desperate Housewives (ABC)

– Everybody Loves Raymond (CBS)

– Scrubs (NBC)

– Will & Grace (NBC)

Who will win: Arrested Development (FOX)

Who should win: Desperate Housewives (ABC)

Comments: This shouldn’t even be close, but it will be. The real question is, will Quality (Arrested Development) win over popularity (Desparate Housewives)? Don’t get me wrong, all the shows nominated are good, but this is a two horse race…

Best Actor, Drama Series:

– Hank Azaria (Huff)

– Hugh Laurie (House M.D.)

– Ian McShane (Deadwood)

– James Spader (Boston Legal)

– Kiefer Sutherland (24)

Who will win: Hugh Laurie (House M.D.)

Who should win: Hugh Laurie (House M.D.)

Comments: Some great performances, but none of them shined this year as much as Hugh Laurie did being the doctor ever loved to hate. All you have to do is watch his earlier work and hear his real accent (He’s British) to realize what an amazing performance this really is. The others are great and as much as I’d love to see Sutherland or McShane walk out with an emmy, this one is the closest lock of the night.

Also… does anyone find it interesting that two of these four nominations came from FOX and there are zero nominations in this category for both NBC and CBS. Let’s hope they take the hint and work on that.

Best Actress, Drama Series:

– Patricia Arquette (Medium)

– Glenn Close The Shield)

– Frances Conroy (Six Feet Under)

– Jennifer Garner (Alias)

– Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit)

Who will win: Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit)

Who should win: Frances Conroy (Six Feet Under)

Comments: I’m delighted to see Patricia Arquette up there, but since Medium has a strong audience, she’ll get another chance to win it next year and maybe the year after. This year, both Conroy and Hargitay has great seasons on their respective shows. Either of them would put a smile on my face, especially Conroy whose character took a lot in the final season of SFU. Should be a close one…

Best Actor, Comedy Series:

– Jason Bateman (Arrested Development)

– Zach Braff (Scrubs)

– Eric McCormack (Will & Grace)

– Tony Shalhoub (Monk)

– Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond)

Who will win: Jason Bateman (Arrested Development)

Who should win: Jason Bateman (Arrested Development)

Comments: This one shouldn’t be even close, Bateman has had another funny year for FOX, and while it’s possible Romano might pull it out cause its his final season, it should be interesting to see which way the voters go with this.

Best Actress, Comedy Series:

– Marcia Cross (Desperate Housewives)

– Teri Hatcher (Desperate Housewives)

– Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond)

– Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives)

– Jane Kaczmarek (Malcolm in the Middle)

Who will win: Teri Hatcher (Desperate Housewives)

Who should win: Jane Kaczmarek (Malcolm in the Middle)

Comments: It’s true that Desperate Housewives is going to snatch away a lot if not all of its nominations tonight. This one will be gobbled up by the possible sweep, has a 3 in 5 chance…

Best Supporting Actress, Drama Series:

– Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy)

– Blythe Danner (Huff)

– Tyne Daly (Judging Amy)

– CCH Pounder (The Shield)

– Stockard Channing (The West Wing)

Who will win: Stockard Channing, The West Wing (NBC)

Who should win: Not really sure…

Comments: I haven’t watched much if any episodes of the shows nominated here. Until now, I didn’t even realize Judging Amy was still on the friggin’ air. Chances are voters might react the same way and go with the show they’ve actually watched…

Best Supporting Actor, Drama Series:

– William Shatner, Boston Legal (ABC)

– Oliver Platt, Huff (Showtime)

– Naveen Andrews, Lost (ABC)

– Terry O’Quinn, Lost (ABC)

– Alan Alda, The West Wing (NBC)

Who will win: Alan Alda, The West Wing (NBC)

Who should win: Alan Alda, The West Wing (NBC)

Comments: This one will be interesting. Shatner won an Emmy for this same role last year for his guest spots on The Practice… and clearly gave the voters more of what they liked last year. Then again, Alda single handedly brought West Wing back to the top with an amazing performance as Ernie, the Republican running for President next season. How amazing was Alda with this show? Rumors are swirling that they might let Alda’s character win the election and turn The Whitehouse Republcian for season eight. While I don’t see that happening (A Smits Whitehouse with Josh/Leo in the staff would be more fun) regardless if it does, I think Alda and Smits will be the Best Actor category next year…

Best Supporting Actor, Comedy Series:

– Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development)

– Jeremy Piven (Entourage)

– Peter Boyle (Everybody Loves Raymond)

– Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond)

– Sean Hayes (Will & Grace)

Who will win: Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond)

Who should win: Peter Boyle (Everybody Loves Raymond)

Comments: This is the exact same prediction I made last year. Garrett is amazing, but I’d love to see Peter Boyle get a little love for making us all laugh our asses off for the last seven years. Cool this is I’ll actually have to get some new material for this category next year…

Best Supporting Actress, Comedy Series:

– Jessica Walter (Arrested Development)

– Doris Roberts (Everybody Loves Raymond)

– Holland Taylor (Two and a Half Men (CBS))

– Conchata Ferrell (Two and a Half Men)

– Megan Mullally (Will & Grace)

Who will win: Doris Roberts (Everybody Loves Raymond)

Who should win: Who cares, honestly?

Comments: Not too sure about this category, but will be interesting as it might give us an idea of how things go for the night.

So those are my predictions… who do you think will win?

Peter

i think sandra oh should win, but other than that, your predictions seem pretty dead on.

I feel like I’ve just read a higher quality of tv guide :-)I am pulling for Hugh Laurie as well… and not just ‘cuz I have a soft spot in my heart for Scots *giggle*

I’m hoping Lost wins something, I’m totally hooked on that show. Paul says it’s like porn to me, and sadly, he’s right… those men, holy crap. Bodies like those have to win Emmys, or something’s just wrong with the world. 😀

I only watch Monk of all these listed. I don’t watch much TV. Mostly I think it’s crap.

September 19, 2005

Hmmmm… you were a little off.

September 19, 2005

I hardly watch any of the shows that were nominated but I know that watching last night, I was totally shocked by most of the winners. The people and shows that won were not the ones I was expecting to win.

uhhh sweetheart…I hope you didn’t bet any money on any of these…lol it appears that you were way off…lol with the exception on your supporting cats in comedy. But come on…HOW hysterical was the Donald??? Gotta love a guy who isn’t afraid to look the fool and still be cool at it!
