American Idol: As I heard It! Results!
I usually don’t comment on the winner or the last show. But this year I have to. So here we go, my thoughts as they were happening. And yes, I really do sit there with a notebook while watching so I can come here and report back. I know, I need my head examined.
I hate these ensemble numbers, and what’s with the all white outfits?
David Cook sounded terrific. I tend to forget how much I love his voice. He might be my favorite AI winner. I didn’t know his brother died recently. Very sad, but these are the things that make a singer so much more — more depth, more substance. He sure is a lot cuter than those first few AI weeks.
Justin’s thinking "Someone please talk to me."
Oh Norman . . . ok, that was enough.
Lil and Queen Latifah. This is more Lil’s speed but I think she tried to out-sing the Queen and couldn’t.
I liked Mraz. He’s so cheery, like Don’t Worry, Be Happy. 😉
Keith Urban is too old for that hairdo.
Kris definitely held his own with Urban — in fact, I actually liked Kris’ voice more.
Liked Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas. Her body looked killer.
Not Bikini Girl again. That voice — oy!! Good implants though. Kara sounded great, and what a hilarious ending. Good for her!
I still love Cindy Lauper. I really loved how well they sounded together. However? My very favorite rendition of this song, Time After Time, is now by Rob Thomas. I know, you’re shocked. NOT! Listen to it on youtube if they have it, you’ll convert too.
Lionel Richie and Danny Gokey? Well, it did kind of work — but All Night Long worked better at the L.A. Olympics. Lionel really rocked that house then.
This is fun but nothing I’ve seen yet compares to Meatloaf making a woman out of Katherine McPhee.
Aw, Beth — what a great song. And it sounds like he got some coaching — maybe from Kiss? Like ‘If you screech this song, dude, we’ll fucking kill you.’ Dumb Kiss song, whatever it was — I barely tolerated Kiss. Thankfully Adam didn’t get into a tongue competition with Gene. Ok, I know this song — Adam’s going to be reliving this night for the rest of his life. He finally has what I kept saying he needed — a band to front. It helps balance out that voice that wanders toward a range that I, at times, find oh-so-unpleasant.
Is Carlos dueting with himself? Oh no, I’ve already forgotten this kid’s name!!! Oops, a bad note from Adam — maybe he doesn’t know that song? Oh come on, let the Puerto Rican boy have this one — give him his moment to shine.
I got swept up in the samba moment and danced in my bed with Daisy — she showed her appreciation by thoroughly cleaning my nose. She’s a great dance partner.
Underwhelmed by the Fusion, boys?
Steve Martin is still damn cute. I’m holding my breath for Megan — will she do well or mess up? Ok, so it wasn’t really her thing, but the words were funny, just like Steve. Uh oh, her singing is making Steve look kind of sick.
Ah Rod, I never get tired of Maggie Mae, even if his voice is breaking. Wow, he looks 90, doesn’t he? He was never what you could call cute but good lord, he’s George Burns now! It’s ok, we can go back and listen to his CDs. Thank you for the great music, Rod.

That crazy gal, Tatiana — bye bye, I hope for good this time. I’d kill her myself if I thought I could get away with it.
Ah, We Are the Champions. Interesting. I would think Adam would be great, but Kris held his own, a more sensitive rendition. Adam of course could sing the balls off that song. Hey, Queen — if Nile Rodgers gets pissy, you can tour with Adam. Kind of like Rock Star: Queen, without the TV show. Then you can dump him at the airport after the final show and he’ll be homeless and living in his car again . . . oh wait, that was JD Fortune.
Ok, I listened to that last number again and what fun!!!
I’m so pleased Kris won. I like that kid. Adam peaked too early — what can I say? Slow and steady wins the race.
I give Adam credit for a non-Daughtry reaction.
Maybe they’ll do a Queen Broadway show and Adam can win a Tony.
Aw, that was a sweet shot of Kris hugging his wife hard at the end, and crying. Very sweet.
A good night — not quite Meatloaf / McPhee good, but that Queen number was damn good. It was like a 2 hour Ed Sullivan extravaganza without the Russian plate spinners — maybe next year.
