American Idol: As I Heard It! (Final 3)

O’kay, here we go.  

Danny — Dance, Little Sister — Woohoo, a Terence Trent D’Arby tune.  Too bad it wasn’t ‘If You Let Me Stay’.  Darby sure shone brightly, then flamed and disappeared — I guess you’re not allowed to be a total asshole even when you’re a rock star.  Ok, Danny sang it well, but it’s not what I’m listening to these days. 
 
Kris — Apologize — Good choice for him, but a no-brainer really.  And a bit unfair to give him something contemporary and have Danny sing something from 20+ years ago.  Of course, he sang it well — it’s his genre.  Just like the original though.  Yes, that was an odd note — but I thought he just threw it into a different key.
 
Adam — One — Wonderful song, Interesting choice.  While the first part is pretty, there’s nothing distinctive in his voice.  A funky note.  Second half, interesting, different, a rather high range though which isn’t my favorite for him — he seems to like it though.  Very dramatic — too dramatic.  It’s making me want to hear the original which had more sensitivity.  His is a theatrical sensitivity.  When I think drama, I think something like "Live" singing ‘Lightning Crashes’ — dramatic without being screechy. 
 
Danny — You Are So Beautiful — I like the way it started but there were some bum notes.  I don’t think this was quite as successful as he thought it would be.  Well, I guess the judges liked it better than I did.  I happen to love the song the way Joe Cocker did it.
 
Kris — Heartless — I don’t know this song well, but I like it — a lot.  My favorite of the night.  I had to listen to it again — loved it.
 
Adam —  Crying — Well done, but you know — Adam is like Rock Star Light.  He is all surface but lacking substance, depth, weight.  Ok, damn it — DVR just cut him off a minute into it.  I hate when they go late like that.  Guess I’ll catch it on youtube. 
 
For me, it was Kris’ night.  Then it’s a toss-up between Danny and Adam going home for me tonight, for different reasons.  Sorry Danny, dude I was in your corner but I gotta be as impartial as I can.
