American Idol: As I Heard It: 2nd 12 of 36

Here we go again.  I hope it’s better than last week.

Jasmine Murray Love Song — I really liked this girl in the auditions.  I don’t know about this song.  It certainly shows vocal range, but I’m not really liking it.  She’s a very capable singer though.  I think I like her.  So she was pitchy?  Since I don’t know the song, I couldn’t tell.  I guess I liked it better than the judges.

Matt Giraud Viva La Vida — Great song.  Can he do it?  Hmmm, maybe not.  And he’s nervous.  What a shame because he was great in the audition.  He should have stuck to bluesy numbers.  This is a simple song, sung without much passion — and this guy is investing too much emotion in such a casual song.  Oh well.

Jeanine Vailes This Love — Great song, although not for her.  Here we go again — a replay from last week.

Nick Mitchell And I Am Telling You — Well, he threw away that opportunity, didn’t he?  Idiot.  He didn’t even sing well.

Allison Iraheta Alone — Great song, big song.  Can she handle it?  Yes, she can.  My, what a big voice she has.  I don’t exactly love her voice — it’s not really pure, a little muddy.  This is the first good one of the night.  Good for her.

Kris Allen Man in the Mirror — MJ is so passé.  This guy did ok — he just didn’t excite me.  Meh.

I do, however, consider this my very favorite MJ song.  Got me through a very tough time growing up.

*Megan Corkrey  — Put Your Records On — Cute girl.  She’s nervous, but I like her.  There’s something really likable about her.  What’s with the wiggle and funky arm movements?  She is very much like Alannis Morrisette in her persona, but way more gorgeous.  She’s definitely pitchy in places, but cute.  Will she move like that to every song?  The boys will love it and I’ll be laughing.  I liked her better than Allison.

Matt Breatzke If You Could Only See — Good song, and he sang it pretty well but he doesn’t look the part or maybe he just doesn’t look that comfortable.  Vocally I liked him.  I guess the judges didn’t.

*Jesse Langseth Bette Davis Eyes — Interesting song choice.  Interesting voice, too.  Nice tone, and her voice is confident and on, which makes a performance so much more enjoyable.  Uh oh, I like her and Megan.  I do agree with Randy — the song has a very limited range.  I think maybe a bluesy or jazzier number, some Alicia Keys thing, might work well for her.

Kai Kalama — What Becomes of the Brokenhearted — Nice song.  Why’s he making all those bad faces.  He’s not very comfortable on stage and his movements are weird.  I could like him better if someone would spend some time giving him some direction.  Maybe he’s too tall so he looks awkward?

Mishavonna Henson Drops of Jupiter — She has a good voice, but those ‘eh eh eh’s’ sounded a bit awkward.   Another big voiced girl.  She needs more personality.  Uh oh, I want 3 girls to get through tomorrow.  Simon’s right — she has no lightness.

*Adam Lambert — Satisfaction — Am I the only person who’s not crazy about this song?  I had big hopes for this boy after the auditions and he’s not disappointing me.  However, he is very high school musical.  Oh no, he’s reminding me of the guy in Rock Star — was his name Mig?  I could see him doing Jesus Christ Superstar.  This guy can definitely sing, but I don’t like that high pitch — never have.  Will he follow Clay in Spamalot?  I wasn’t convinced that this kid can be a viable rock star, even though the judges seem to think so.  The guys mainly sucked, so I have to give him my vote.  Ok, not my vote because I’m not going to bother calling, so he gets my bold.

So what did you all think?
Names marked by an asterisk (*) are my 3 picks to get through.
